90 kilograms of unsuitable crayfish seized in Antalya, caught red-handed in operation

It was stated that the live crayfish, weighing a total of 90 kilograms, were being transported in environments that could threaten human health and in violation of hygiene rules, creating a risk in terms of food safety as well as constituting a legal crime. Within the scope of the investigation ongoing on the subject, it was learned that the crayfish were confiscated and necessary administrative and judicial proceedings were initiated against the suspects who ensured the transportation of these products.

It has been emphasized that the primary purpose of such operations is to protect the health of citizens and prevent those obtaining unfair profits, and similar inspections will continue uninterruptedly throughout the province and the inspection mechanism will be further strengthened. It was recalled that imbalances in the local ecosystem due to uncontrolled hunting of freshwater crayfish populations are being tried to be prevented with such inspections, and legal restrictions have been introduced to protect biodiversity. Experts state that the increased inspections, especially in the summer months, play an effective role in uncovering businesses that do not comply with food safety standards and smuggling activities, thus ensuring consumers have access to quality and reliable food. It was stated that inspections are carried out not only at bus terminals but also at wholesale halls and retail sales points, and the entire supply chain is kept under supervision to close possible loopholes.
