Factory Fire in Aradippou Continues: Two Firefighters Hospitalized

A major fire that broke out at a frozen food factory located in the Aradippou region of Güney Kıbrıs has prompted a large-scale response in the area. According to information obtained from the scene, two firefighters affected by heavy smoke were dispatched to the hospital and are reported to be in good condition. The fire, which started during the noon hours, reportedly spread rapidly across the entire facility grounds and began threatening surrounding buildings. While numerous teams have been dispatched to the area, authorities have taken extensive measures for public safety. The intense heat generated by the cold storage facilities stands out as one of the main factors increasingly complicating the extinguishing efforts.

To intervene in the fire, support teams were dispatched to the area from Lefkoşa, Larnaka, Vassiliko İtfaiye İstasyonu, and the disaster response unit EMAK. Seven fire engines, a special vehicle carrying breathing apparatus, and a hydraulic telescopic platform are currently operating at the scene. A water tanker from the Orman Dairesi was also requested to provide additional water support. The İtfaiye Teşkilatı headquarters established a forward control center at the scene to ensure coordination and manage the operation on-site. The continuous increase in the number of teams and equipment is a clear indication of the magnitude of the fire and how critical the response is.

The heavy smoke generated by the fire has affected not only the incident site but the entire city of Larnaka and the highways. Police sources announced that ambulances were also dispatched to the area for civilians reported to be affected by the smoke. As part of the necessary security measures, all roads leading to the industrial zone were closed to traffic, and vehicle entry was completely banned. Authorities urged the public to stay away from the area and allow emergency teams to work. Warnings were issued for citizens to close their windows and avoid going outside in areas where visibility has dropped and the air has become heavy.

Firefighting teams have engaged in intense efforts to prevent the fire from spreading to other surrounding facilities. The extreme heat generated by the numerous cold rooms inside the factory creates a barrier that makes extinguishing the flames extremely difficult. At the same time, careful search and scan operations are being conducted to check if there are any individuals who might be trapped inside the building. Personnel from the Ambulans Servisi and the Çalışma Dairesi İnceleme Birimi were called to the area as a precaution against a potential health crisis or occupational safety violation. To cut off the advance of the flames, teams continue to work tirelessly, day and night, establishing defense lines at strategic points of the facility.

Security forces and incident site managers are continuously assessing whether other factories in the industrial zone need to be evacuated as well. Such industrial fires pose a serious threat in terms of toxic gases and heat waves that could spread into the environment. The extent of the material damage the incident has caused to the frozen food stocks cannot be fully estimated at this moment, but it is believed that a large part of the facility has been rendered unusable. Authorities plan to initiate a comprehensive damage assessment and safety inspection in the area once the fire is completely brought under control.
