Dogs Attack Woman in Bulgaria, Owner Flees the Scene

In a horrific incident that took place in the Samokov region of Bulgaria, a woman was attacked by two dogs while walking on the street. The incident occurred on 6 July at around 16:00 on Tsar Boris III Boulevard. According to authorities, the dogs went out of control and attacked the woman despite a man walking them. As a result of the attack, the woman sustained numerous deep lacerations on her head, face, and neck. Following the incident, the dogs' owner quickly fled the area, leaving the injured woman behind at the scene.

Immediately after the incident, upon a report from local residents, police teams were dispatched to the scene. The Samokov police evaluated the report and sprang into action quickly to rescue the injured and ensure security. The teams arriving at the area provided first aid to the severely injured woman and tried to stabilize her condition. Afterwards, the injured woman was transferred to a hospital in the capital, Sofia, to receive further and comprehensive medical treatment. Authorities stated that the woman was placed under an urgent and intensive treatment process due to the serious injuries in her head, face, and neck areas.

Meanwhile, the identity of the dogs' owner and where he went were immediately determined as part of the police investigation. The fleeing suspect was found by police officers shortly after the incident and taken into custody. Officials from the Sofia Regional Directorate, affiliated with the Bulgarian Inner Affairs Ministry, stated that the suspect was kept in custody for up to 24 hours. It was noted that taking the suspect's statement and investigating the details of the incident are ongoing. The legal responsibilities of animal owners in such incidents also began to be evaluated within the framework of the Bulgarian legal system.

It was announced that an official preliminary investigation was launched regarding the incident and a detailed judicial process is being conducted. This investigation, carried out under the supervision and directives of the prosecutor's office, aims to fully illuminate all aspects of the incident. It was reported that relevant security camera footage is being examined and the statements of individuals who witnessed the incident are being taken. Authorities emphasized that all judicial and administrative processes will be flawlessly executed to ensure public safety and prevent similar attacks. Furthermore, it is being investigated whether existing rules regarding stray or dangerous animals are being enforced in the area.

This tragic incident has brought concerns about the control of large and potentially dangerous dogs walked on the streets back to the agenda.
