Cannabis Operation in Bucak District of Burdur: 1 Person Arrested

In a large-scale security operation coordinated by the Burdur and Bucak Chief Public Prosecutor's Offices, a suspect who was found to be cultivating illegal cannabis was taken into custody. As a result of meticulous investigations conducted by the Burdur Provincial Gendarmerie Command teams within the scope of the Fight Against Narcotic Crimes (NSM), the operation was successfully executed in the Bucak district. Intelligence and patrol activities conducted by security forces in the region demonstrated a decisive stance against illegal drug production. During the operation, the suspect's body and residence were searched in detail, and various pieces of evidence were collected. The said operation was recorded as part of the routine security measures regularly carried out with the aim of preventing drug trafficking and protecting public health.

The judicial process regarding the incident proceeded quite swiftly, and official procedures against the suspect were immediately initiated. Within the scope of the operation conducted on 5 Temmuz 2026, it was determined that the individual had committed the crime of Violation of Law No. 2313 (Illegal Cultivation-Cannabis). The suspect, whose statement was taken and whose interrogation at the Security and Gendarmerie teams was completed, was referred to the courthouse. After the prosecutor's interrogation, the suspect, who was brought before the court, was sent to the on-call duty magistrate's court with a request for arrest. The individual, whose arrest was decided by the court for the crimes of producing and possessing illegal drugs, was sent to prison, and the process of executing the sentences was initiated.

During the physical searches conducted within the scope of the operation, a significant amount of material considered as criminal evidence was seized. As a result of the searches, a total of 131 illegal cannabis plants were identified in the areas where the suspect was located and confiscated to be destroyed. Furthermore, upon expanding the operation, the teams managed to seize 2 unlicensed hunting rifles in addition to the cannabis plants. It was reported that the seized weapons, which were evaluated to have possibly been used by criminal organizations or for personal security purposes, were registered to be subjected to ballistic examination. These findings revealed that the suspect not only engaged in cultivation but also posed an armed threat element.

In the official statement made by the security units regarding the operation, it was emphasized that the fight for ensuring the peace and security of the city will continue with determination. The Burdur Provincial Gendarmerie Command stated that the fight against narcotic crimes continues without any interruption in full coordination with the judicial and civilian authorities. Authorities expressed that drug dealers will not be given any opportunity with the reports and support of the local people, and that such illegal activities will not go unpunished. It was reported that such operations are of vital importance, especially to prevent young people from being dragged into the swamp of drugs and to reinforce social security. Gendarmerie teams continued their patrol and intelligence activities in the region day and night, intensifying their efforts to dismantle similar crime networks.

Illegal cannabis cultivation stands out as one of the crime categories that Turkish security forces have focused on the most in recent years. In accordance with the policy of drying up the source of drugs, production facilities and hidden cultivation areas are detected using drones and technological devices. Seasonal operations are planned in Burdur and surrounding provinces to prevent agricultural lands from being used for illegal production. While the seized plants are delivered to relevant laboratories and security units to be examined and destroyed, the apprehension of criminals significantly breaks the drug supply in the region.
