Algeria grants new reprieve to importers on freight

Algeria has extended the exceptional authorization for the domiciliation of import invoices including freight until December 31, 2026. The decision, previously renewed in December 2025 until June 30, 2026, was communicated by the Association of Banks and Financial Institutions (ABEF) to banks. The extension covers imports for equipment, operational needs, and goods for resale, subject to required documentation. These measures are part of the government's efforts to tighten control over foreign trade, following the introduction of the Import Forecast Program (PPI) in July 2025, which has now been expanded to include services. Maritime freight is a key target due to its significant impact on the balance of payments.
