Explosion in an Apartment in Çorlu: 1 Person Lost Their Life

In the Çorlu district of Tekirdağ, one person lost their life as a result of a concerning apartment explosion that occurred late at night. The incident took place around 23.00 on the top floor of a 7-story apartment building located in Cemaliye Mahallesi Borsa Meydanı. Due to the impact of the explosion, a fire broke out in the apartment and the building was severely damaged; the partial collapse of the front wall where the window was located revealed the gravity of the situation. Upon the development, residents in the vicinity panicked and evacuated their homes, while police, health, fire department, and AFAD teams were dispatched to the scene.

Thanks to the timely intervention of the fire department teams, the fire in the apartment was brought under control and extinguished; however, initial examinations sadly revealed that one person in the apartment had lost their life. The body of the individual, whose identity has not yet been determined, was removed to the morgue for the autopsy process after detailed examinations were carried out at the scene. Following the incident, a wide-scale investigation was launched in the region, and teams deepened the investigation into the cause of the explosion.

While authorities stated that the strongest initial possibility for the cause of the explosion was a natural gas leak, it was noted that the definitive result would become clear after technical examinations. Apartment residents and other citizens in the area could not calm down for a long time due to the shock effect of the explosion, and security forces took precautions to ensure security in the region. It has become a matter of curiosity whether natural gas and infrastructure checks will be carried out in other buildings in the region to prevent similar disasters, while judicial and administrative processes regarding the incident continue to be meticulously conducted.
