500 thousand lira theft from school construction in Eskişehir: 2 suspects arrested

In an incident where materials worth approximately 500 thousand lira were allegedly stolen from an ongoing school construction in the Odunpazarı district of Eskişehir, two suspects were caught as a result of the meticulous tracking by police teams. The incident occurred in the evening hours at the construction site located on Kırbaşı Caddesi in Erenköy Mahallesi. Allegedly, four suspects involved in the incident targeted construction machinery and materials, attempting a large-scale theft. The suspects, who tried to quickly leave the area by loading the stolen goods onto a three-wheeled motorcycle, were noticed following a tip-off from local residents who became aware of the situation. Police teams dispatched to the area upon the tip-off went after the fleeing suspects and launched a large-scale operation.

The notification of the situation to the authorities by local residents at the time of the incident enabled the police to intervene quickly. As a result of the chase initiated by the Asayiş Şube Müdürlüğü teams, two suspects were caught red-handed within the borders of Emek Mahallesi. It was learned that the caught suspects were siblings, a sister and brother, and their names were E.K. and N.K. In the statements of these two individuals taken into custody, it emerged that the incident was carried out in a planned manner and that similar thefts had occurred before. Some of the stolen materials were seized while still loaded on the motorcycle during the escape.

The detained suspects were taken to the Odunpazarı İlçe Emniyet Müdürlüğü Kurtuluş Polis Merkezi Amirliği for processing and were interrogated there. In detailed examinations, it was determined that this incident was carried out by the same individuals and that a similar theft had occurred a week ago. Construction engineer Raşit Canbaz stated that a large amount of materials had been stolen from the site previously, mentioning that the police were contacted upon a tip-off from neighbors. Canbaz revealed the scale of the incident, stating that in the first theft, construction materials worth approximately 500 to 600 thousand lira were stolen. Authorities emphasized that the suspects were quickly caught thanks to the successful tracking by security forces.

This incident has once again brought to the agenda the need to increase security measures in construction sites. Construction engineer Raşit Canbaz stated that following the recent incidents, stricter measures should be taken regarding occupational safety and material tracking. Furthermore, it was emphasized that local residents and authorities need to be more vigilant to prevent such incidents. Canbaz offered his thanks to the police teams and the local community for their sensitivity. It was noted that the cost of material theft affects not only the construction companies but also the completion time of the projects.

While the investigation into the incident continues, police teams are continuing their efforts to catch the other two fleeing suspects. Authorities announced that a large-scale operation is being conducted in the area to apprehend the fugitives as soon as possible and that all intelligence units have been mobilized. Additionally, it is being investigated whether the suspects have prior records for similar crimes. In order to prevent such incidents, law enforcement plans to increase the number of patrols in workshops and construction sites. The suspects detained within the scope of the investigation are expected to be referred to the courthouse after their procedures are completed.
