Residents of New York, Glen Head, and Glenwood Landing have launched a strong resistance against the Propel NY energy transmission line project, which will affect the region. At a large rally held at the local American Legion building, neighborhood residents tried to make their voices heard by drawing attention to the potential negative impacts of the project. Led by Christene Panzecka and Doug Augenthaler, this grassroots movement aims to increase awareness ahead of the official comment and objection period ending on 10 Temmuz. Citizens strongly oppose jeopardizing their own health and safety under the guise of modernizing the region's infrastructure. Community members have come together to stop or at least mitigate the devastating effects of the project on the local quality of life.

The project in question is a massive 3.2 billion dollar investment carried out in collaboration with New York Power Authority (New York Güç Otoritesi) and New York Transco. Envisioning the laying of a total 58-mile underground energy transmission line across Nassau County, this initiative aims to strengthen the region's power grid and integrate offshore wind farms into the main system. The route is planned to start from Westchester and Bronx, pass through Queens, and affect 18 villages in three different towns within Nassau County. Additionally, it is planned to lay miles of submarine power transmission cables in the Hempstead Limanı and Long Island Sound regions. According to the company's plans, construction works are expected to start in 2026, and the system is expected to be fully operational by May 2030.

Among the issues that concern the protesters the most are the heavy traffic that the construction process will create and the potential threats to public health. Activists who have spent most of their lives in Glen Head emphasize that steps taken to protect the environment should not risk human life. It has been calculated that, as part of the project, the transmission lines will progress at an average of only 75 feet (approximately 23 meters) per day. According to Doug Augenthaler's calculations, at this pace, laying the lines along the Glen Head Road and Glenwood Road routes will entail a construction process lasting exactly 266 days. This means that local residents will suffer great hardships due to years of intensive construction activity, noise, and road closures.

Residents also harbor a great fear that the project's submarine cable laying process could lead to environmental disasters. Christene Panzecka stated that water bodies such as Hempstead Limanı and Long Island Sound deserve the highest federal protection standards, emphasizing the need to defend nature. Community organizers warned in petitions submitted to the Army Corps of Engineers that the jet plow method to be used for laying submarine cables could cause water pollution by stirring up previously undisturbed toxic substances. Glen Cove Mayor Pamela Panzenbeck also attended the rally, standing with the public, stating that the local people are being subjected to an experiment and that officials are not genuinely concerned with the consequences of the process.

During the event, neighborhood residents took advantage of special opportunities to send objection letters to the public service commission and the Army Corps of Engineers, and to participate in petition campaigns. While many residents who attended the meeting loudly expressed their dissatisfaction with the project, they criticized politicians for disappearing on this important issue and leaving the public alone. Citizens such as Vincent Suraci, specifically mentioned by name, argued that local administrators and politicians should stand by the public in such a major infrastructure change. Until 10 Temmuz, when the process will end, the community's efforts to make its voice heard by wider audiences are expected to continue increasing. Ultimately, the people of Glen Head are showing their determination to continue their legal and social struggles until the last moment to prevent the damages that the massive energy project will cause to their neighborhoods and health.
