Fire in Gornji Milanovac: Two Apartments Damaged, Mother and Daughter Evacuated

A major fire broke out during the night hours in the village of Vraćevšnica, located in the Gornji Milanovac municipality of Sırbistan. The fire, which started in a residential building in the center, grew rapidly and severely damaged two apartments until it was brought under control. A mother and her daughter, who were in the building at the time of the incident and residing there permanently, were immediately evacuated for their safety. Numerous firefighting teams were dispatched to the area, and the spread of the fire to other apartments was prevented with great effort. The fact that no one was injured in the incident by chance showed that a disaster was narrowly averted.

Following the fire alarm, all available fire department units in Gornji Milanovac were immediately dispatched to the scene. In addition to four fire trucks and numerous firefighting personnel, two reinforcement teams from the neighboring city of Čačak also arrived in the area. The teams fought intensely throughout the night to prevent the flames from spreading to the rest of the building. Thanks to the great dedication and effort of the firefighters, the fire was finally localized, and the other sections of the building were saved from burning. Emergency Management Center officials operating in the region confirmed that the operation was conducted successfully and the situation was brought under control.

Although the absence of casualties or injuries in the incident is considered a great stroke of luck, the material damage is quite substantial. The burning apartment structure is privately owned and contains four apartments and two commercial establishments on the ground floor. While only one of these apartments was used continuously by the family, the other three were used for temporary accommodation. The mother and daughter, who lived in the continuously used apartment that was caught in the flames, were removed from the building by firefighting teams. These two individuals, whose safety was under threat, were later placed in a nearby accommodation facility for temporary shelter.

Even after the fire was extinguished, the building continues to pose a serious danger, as its roof structure has largely collapsed. Emergency Management officials emphasized that the collapsed roof must be removed or repaired as soon as possible, otherwise additional risks may arise. For the safety of the residents, it was deemed essential that this structure be addressed urgently. Officials plan to hold a meeting as soon as possible to resolve this issue and guide the affected residents. Municipal authorities aim to first resolve the roof issue and then evaluate how to provide more effective assistance to the victims. The cause of the fire currently remains unclear, and the investigation into the matter is still ongoing. Authorized inspectors who arrived at the scene launched a detailed examination to determine the origin of the fire and whether it was a possible arson or a technical malfunction. Until the examination process is completed, the use of the building has been restricted for safety reasons. Local governments stated that they are preparing to activate the necessary social support mechanisms to compensate for the grievances of the affected family. Local residents, on the other hand, stated that the fire safety measures of buildings should be reviewed to prevent similar disasters.
