A comprehensive operation against irregular migration and human smuggling was conducted in Hatay's Kumlu district. As a result of intelligence and surveillance work by security forces, two suspicious vehicles were stopped in the Akkuyu locality and a detailed search was conducted. During identity and residence checks, 8 foreign nationals without legal residence permits in Turkey were identified as irregular migrants. It was assessed that these individuals were attempting to enter or exit the country illegally. Following the incident, the migrants were detained by security forces and official procedures were initiated.

The investigation was also deepened regarding individuals determined to have transported and organized irregular migrants. A total of 6 suspects, directly linked to the matter, were swiftly detained by police teams on charges of being 'organizers'. The detained suspects were referred to the courthouse after their procedures, including taking their statements, were completed. The suspects, who defended themselves against the charges, were brought before the on-duty penal court of peace after their interrogation. The court convened with its panel to decide whether to arrest the suspects or release them under judicial control.

After the completion of the procedures at the courthouse, the court made important decisions regarding the perpetrators of the incident. Evaluating the judicial process, the penal judgeship ruled to arrest 4 of the 6 suspects and send them to prison. The remaining 2 suspects were released under judicial control conditions, such as a ban on leaving the country and a signature requirement. It is alleged that the arrested suspects made significant financial gains by transporting illegal migrants through Turkey. It is noted that these criminal organizations use routes between different cities to sustain their activities and act as intermediaries on these lines.

Within the scope of the operation, not only individuals involved in human smuggling but also the vehicles and drivers used in these activities were evaluated. In the examinations conducted on the two vehicles stopped by police teams, it was determined that the drivers had violated multiple traffic rules. In this context, a total administrative fine of 205 bin TL was imposed on the drivers acting unlawfully. Additionally, two vehicles, which were used as crime tools and violated traffic rules, were banned from traffic and confiscated. Authorities state that those engaged in human smuggling generally take the risk of drawing the attention of security forces by violating such rules.

The fate of the 8 irregular migrants caught by security units was also determined through an administrative process. The migrants, whose interrogation and identification procedures at the Security Directorate were completed flawlessly, were handed over in accordance with relevant legal provisions. Following the procedures, these individuals were transferred to the Hatay Provincial Directorate of Migration Management, which is responsible for managing deportation or readmission processes. The Migration Management will examine the individuals' situations and create records to initiate their repatriation or legal proceedings. This operation stands out as a routine but effective part of Turkey's determined fight against irregular migrant traffic at its borders.
