19 suspects referred to court with request for arrest in Istanbul DEAŞ operation

Within the scope of the comprehensive investigation carried out by the Istanbul Cumhuriyet Başsavcılığı against the terrorist organization DEAŞ, 19 out of 39 suspects taken into custody were referred to the Sulh Ceza Hakimliği'ne with a request for arrest. The operation, coordinated by the Istanbul Emniyet Müdürlüğü Terörle Mücadele ve İstihbarat Şube Müdürlüğü teams, was transferred to judicial authorities after the completion of the suspects' procedures at the police station. The prosecutor's office requested the release of 20 of the 39 suspects whose statements were taken under judicial control conditions, while requested a detention decision for 19 suspects within the scope of organization membership and activities. The suspects were delivered to the relevant units to continue their proceedings at the courthouse after being brought to the Istanbul Adliyesi. In this process, the court will evaluate the prosecutor's requests and make its final decision.

When looking at the details of the operation, it is seen that simultaneous raids were carried out on 46 addresses in Kocaeli and Konya provinces, centered in Istanbul, and a detention decision was made for 42 suspects in this context. While 39 suspects were successfully taken into custody within the scope of the operation, a large number of digital materials and weapons considered to be linked to the activities of the organization were seized in the searches at the addresses. In the searches conducted by the security forces, 1 unlicensed handgun, 50 bullets, 2 knives and 1 drone were found. These seized materials were added to the file as important evidence to confirm the roles and activities of the suspects within the organization.

The investigation carried out by the Istanbul Cumhuriyet Başsavcılığı Terör Suçları Soruşturma Bürosu is a blow to the structure and activities of the DEAŞ terrorist organization in Turkey. The fact that the operation was not limited to Istanbul but also spread to Kocaeli and Konya is of great importance in terms of deciphering the organization's extensions across the country. The raids on the addresses determined as a result of the intelligence work and technical follow-up of the Emniyetyet müdürlüğü teams enabled the determination of the suspects' communication and logistics networks. The request for the release of 20 suspects under judicial control provisions may indicate that these individuals' relevance to the incident was lower or that sufficient evidence was not found. However, the request for the arrest of 19 suspects may be due to the fact that these individuals had more critical roles within the organization or were caught in the act. As a result of the examination to be made by the Sulh Ceza Hakimliği, the detention status of the suspects will be determined and the process will continue within the legal framework.
