Cambodia showcases cyber scam crackdown to Japanese media as raids top 500 locations

Cambodia has intensified its crackdown on online scam operations, raiding over 500 suspected locations since early 2025. Senior Minister Chhay Sinarith, in an interview with Japan's TBS, emphasized that cyber scam networks are a global crisis, not unique to Cambodia. The government has sealed over 400 premises, suspended or revoked 25 casino licenses, and initiated legal proceedings against more than 2,000 foreign suspects from 33 nationalities. Sinarith highlighted the newly enacted Law on Combating Online Scams as a comprehensive legal framework to target technology-enabled fraud and restore Cambodia's international reputation.
