Turned into a Disaster in Pakistan: Bus Flew into a Ravine, 40 People Lost Their Lives

A passenger bus traveling from the city of Quetta in Pakistan's Balochistan province to the city of Peshawar in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province went out of control and flew into a giant pit. The accident occurred with extreme violence, and the impact of the fall crushed the bus like paper, rendering it unusable. According to initial information from the scene, 40 of the passengers in the vehicle lost their lives in this tragic accident, while 8 were injured to varying degrees. In their statement, officials expressed concern that the death toll could rise and noted that the condition of the injured remained serious. Immediately following the accident, a large-scale search and rescue operation was launched in the region. Local authorities and emergency teams mobilized to collect the injured and transport them to the nearest health institutions. As part of the organized intervention, a total of 6 ambulances and 12 emergency medical technicians (EMTs) were dispatched to the scene to provide medical support. Rescue teams worked under difficult conditions to save the injured trapped among the crushed metal of the bus. After initial intervention, the injured were taken to surrounding hospitals by ambulance for treatment.

It was determined that the bus involved in the accident was carrying 36 passengers initially when it departed from the city of Quetta. However, during the journey, passengers from another bus that had broken down on the route were also taken into this vehicle. This situation increased the number of passengers on the crashed bus and caused congestion above the vehicle's capacity. The total number of passengers on the bus in its final state due to passenger exchanges and extra pick-ups, and whether it created an imbalance, are among the investigations. Work continues to identify the dead and injured.

Although the difficult terrain of the accident site and the depth of the pit complicated the rescue efforts, the teams continue their duty resolutely.
