Investigation into police officer shooting his wife and committing suicide continues

In a statement on Wednesday, police emphasized that the criminal investigation into a woman being shot by her police officer husband and the husband subsequently taking his own life is ongoing, adding that it would be premature to reach any public conclusion about the circumstances of the case.

In the statement, police expressed "deep sorrow" over the incident, stating that their thoughts are with the woman fighting for her life and her family.

The police force said a full and comprehensive criminal investigation is underway and that no further comment will be made until the investigation procedures are completed.

"All the facts will only emerge through the investigation, and it would be premature to reach any conclusion at this stage," the statement said.

The police statement came following public discussions after the incident and questions regarding the mental health and well-being support provided to force members.

In response, police stressed that matters related to the mental health and well-being of officers are not neglected, highlighting the existence of a dedicated human resources support unit staffed by registered psychologists.

According to the statement, this unit provides psychological support, implements prevention and training programs, and activates procedures designed to protect both force members and third parties when necessary, within the existing legal framework.

Police said they will continue to act with transparency and accountability, fully respecting the integrity of the investigation.
