Streaming platform Roku introduced 'Gamechangers: America’s Top 25 Female Athletes', a special program co-prepared with sports production company Omaha Productions. This project serves as the second installment of the 'Gamechangers' anthology series and aims to highlight the impact of female athletes in the United States on both the sports world and culture. Produced by TOGETHXR, Omaha Productions, and Motion Entertainment, the executive producers of the program include four-time WNBA champion Sue Bird, two-time FIFA World Cup champion Alex Morgan, and legendary American football player Peyton Manning.

This hour-long special, titled 'America’s Top 25 Female Athletes' in English, began airing on 2 Temmuz on the free Roku Channel, covering the weekend encompassing the independence day holiday of 4 Temmuz. The show is hosted by prominent figures in sports media such as Ryan Ruocco, Stu Holden, Katie Nolan, and Hannah Storm, while producers stated they aimed to spark debate among sports fans regarding the selection criteria for the athletes on the list. Simultaneous with this special broadcast, Roku Channel also presented a special collection of documentaries detailing the careers and cultural legacies of each athlete on the list to viewers.

Sean Boyle, head of sports content for Roku Originals, emphasized in a statement that this project reinforced their commitment to bringing a unique perspective to the dynamic world and history of women's sports for viewers. Boyle expressed that it is a great honor to present the behind-the-scenes stories of powerful female athletes who have dominated their fields and left a mark on American culture, especially over the 4 Temmuz weekend. Co-producer Peyton Manning noted that these women changed not only their sports but also social norms and culture, stating that celebrating these athletes during America's 250th anniversary year is incredibly fitting.

Eve Wulf, Omaha Productions' current producer in charge of productions, told Variety magazine that the project's goal was to create celebration-focused and cheerful content rather than a serious documentary. Wulf predicted that the rankings on the list or certain omitted names might lead to differing opinions among viewers, but emphasized that the important thing is to start discussions about female athletes and keep the topic on the agenda. Additionally, Wulf stated that while their company is known more for 'alternate telecasts', this time they faced a completely different format in the form of a recap and celebration program.

This new special program is not Roku's first foray into women's sports. 'Women’s Sports Now', a weekly studio program that launched last year and later moved to ESPN, was one of the platform's first steps in this area. However, Roku has expanded the 'Gamechangers' brand this year, having previously released 'The Ashlyn Harris Story' documentary. The company continues to take strategic steps towards the future of sports broadcasting and establish a prominent niche among free ad-supported streaming platforms with its broadcasting agreements with sports organizations such as Major League Volleyball, X Games, and Formula E.
