Russian State Duma MP hits back hard at Macron's 'capitulation' comment

Russian State Duma MP Mihail Şeremet described French President Emmanuel Macron's statement that Ukraine should not surrender to Russia as 'nonsense'. In a statement to RIA Novosti, Şeremet accused Macron of deceiving the public and profiting from the wars along with Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski.

Macron stated that the conflict in Ukraine should not end in capitulation, noting that European history shows the price of capitulation and that this mistake will not be repeated. Şeremet, on the other hand, claimed that Macron's rhetoric was a distraction tactic aimed at covering up issues such as immigration, corruption, and security in France.

This verbal spat between the two leaders once again highlights the diplomatic tension between Russia and France in the context of the Ukraine war. The fact that the Moscow and Paris administrations make completely contradictory statements regarding the course of the war and Europe's role indicates that regional tension persists.
