Traditional Ashura Day in Tavşanlı: Treats for 20 Thousand People and a Message of Unity

The traditional Ashura Day event organized on the occasion of the month of Muharram in the Tavşanlı district of Kütahya was held in a joyful atmosphere with the high participation of citizens. This meaningful tradition, continued for years, has made a significant contribution to the socialization of the district people and the strengthening of social solidarity, reinforcing the consciousness of unity and togetherness. Within the scope of the event, a program was held at Cumhuriyet Meydanı, the central point of the district, and the prepared ashura was offered to citizens at the designated mosques and squares following the Friday Prayer.

The program commenced with the speech of Tavşanlı Mayor Ali Kemal Derin following the prayers, marking the official opening of the event. In his speech, Mayor Derin stated that they targeted a distribution of ashura for 20 thousand people across Tavşanlı this year and emphasized that all expenses of the event were covered by the donations of charitable citizens. Stating that not a single penny was spent from the municipal treasury for this event, Derin noted that the cauldrons boiled thanks to the generosity of the people and wished his fellow citizens a wholesome meal full of healing.

Political party representatives and protocol members who contributed to the event were invited to the stage to deliver speeches. Mayor Derin, thanking the people of Tavşanlı for their efforts and contributions, stated that such events strengthen the social fabric of society and that messages of unity should be reiterated at every opportunity. Mehmet Demir noted that Turkey is a great nation with a mosaic structure of people from all views and segments, and ashura is a concrete symbol of this wealth. In the final stage of the program, protocol members and local officials took their places at the cauldrons to fill citizens' bowls with hot ashura and served them personally. A large delegation, including Tavşanlı Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Davut Efe, Director of National Education Raşit Küçükkağnıcı, Local Administration President Abdullah Kul, and council members, celebrated this meaningful day amid the public. The ashura distributed at designated points throughout Tavşanlı symbolized the meeting of thousands of citizens at the same table, demonstrating that the culture of solidarity and mutual aid continues strongly in the district.
