Death Toll from the Tremendous Earthquakes in Venezuela Rises to 4 Thousand 333

Jorge Rodriguez, President of the Venezuela National Assembly, announced the toll of the tremendous earthquakes that occurred in the country on 24 Haziran. According to the updated data as of 11 Temmuz 2026, the number of people who lost their lives in the disaster reached 4 thousand 333. Additionally, it was reported that thousands of injured people remain under the rubble and 16 thousand 740 people were injured to various degrees. Authorities stated that 6 thousand 462 people have been rescued from the rubble so far. It was noted that the death toll increased by 215 compared to the previous official statement, but the numbers of injured and rescued individuals remained unchanged.

The destruction caused by the earthquakes was not limited to human losses; the country's infrastructure also suffered heavy damage. According to official data, a total of 856 buildings were adversely affected by the earthquakes, with 190 of them completely collapsing. Additionally, the 1202 aftershocks recorded in the region following the main tremors further increased public fear and panic. Authorities announced that damage assessment efforts are ongoing and debris removal operations are continuing at full speed. These figures reveal the devastating impact of the earthquakes across the country.

The humanitarian situation that emerged after the disaster continues to be a major source of concern. According to official statements, 86 thousand 794 families benefited from various aids. A total of 94 temporary tent cities were established across the country, providing shelter for 18 thousand 437 people. However, despite this, it was reported that 17 thousand 907 people still remain homeless and are in need of emergency shelter. The government stated that it has mobilized all its resources to resolve the humanitarian crisis in the field and is expecting international assistance. While the distribution of essential supplies continues in temporary shelter centers, it is noted that a long process will be needed to repair the infrastructure damage.

Rescue and debris removal operations are being carried out with a massive human force. On the ground, 31 thousand 837 emergency personnel are working day and night to erase the traces of the disaster and find survivors. In addition to these professionals, more than 30 thousand volunteers are actively supporting the search and rescue efforts. Furthermore, 2422 foreign rescue experts are also on duty in the country, highlighting the importance of international solidarity. Despite all these efforts, it is anticipated that rescue operations will become even more difficult in the coming days due to the critical nature of time.

The Venezuela government has activated all emergency protocols to manage the crisis. In statements made to the public via the state television VTV, it is emphasized that the efforts in the disaster zone are being carried out in a coordinated manner. Authorities acknowledge that difficulties are being experienced in delivering aid to some areas, especially due to damages in the communication and transportation infrastructure. The magnitude of the disaster in the country reveals that the government is obliged to prepare a long-term reconstruction plan.
