Temperature Reaches 36°C in Yunanistan: Regional Rain and Storms Expected

Weather forecasts in Yunanistan indicate a significant temperature increase across the country. Thermometers in continental areas are expected to rise to 33 to 35 degrees, and locally up to 36 degrees Celsius. On the islands and islets, air temperatures are expected to be relatively milder, ranging between 31 and 33 degrees. These high temperatures are among the typical characteristics of the Mediterranean climate in the summer months, but they still prompt the public to be cautious against the heatwave. Authorities warn against engaging in outdoor activities, especially during the noon hours. Generally, clear weather is expected to prevail across the country, but local variations will be experienced in some regions.

In continental regions, temporary cloud cover is expected to form in places during the later hours of the day. During the noon and afternoon hours, local downpours or isolated storms may occur, especially in mountainous areas. Towards the evening hours, cloud cover is expected to increase again in the eastern parts of Makedonya, Trakya, and Teselya. This situation will set the stage for local rains and individually observed thunderstorms, particularly in the eastern and central Makedonya regions. Winds are generally expected to blow from northern directions at 3 to 5 force, reaching up to 6 force locally in the Aegean Denizi. These winds may create a slight feeling of coolness in coastal areas, but they will not change the overall temperature trend.

Detailed weather forecasts for different geographical regions of the country also show variety. While clear weather is expected throughout the day in the regions of Western Yunanistan, the Ionian Islands, and Epirus, short-term downpours may be seen in mountainous areas inland during the afternoon. In the Teselya, Eastern Central Yunanistan, and Peloponnesos regions, temperatures will locally rise up to 35 degrees, and there is a possibility of rain in Eastern Teselya in the evening hours. In Girit and the Kiklad Islands, the weather is reported to be generally clear, with temperatures hovering around 30 to 32 degrees. Northern winds of 4 to 6 force will blow in these regions.

Looking at the major cities, the weather in the capital, Atina, is stated to be generally clear, but there is a possibility of local downpours in the western and northern mountainous areas during the noon and afternoon hours. Winds in Atina will be variable, blowing from southern directions at 3-4 force in the afternoon; temperatures will be measured between 23 and 35 degrees. In Selanik, an increase in cloud cover during the day and isolated storms in the surrounding mountainous areas at noon are expected. While the forecasted temperature values for Selanik range between 22 and 34 degrees, the wind is expected to be variable and light in force. These intra-city details are closely followed by citizens for maintaining daily life and urban planning.

Forecasts for the upcoming days point to a significant change in the weather. According to evaluations made for Thursday, 9 July, a temporary increase in adverse weather conditions is expected in Yunanistan, along with widespread rains and irregular storms. This rainy weather, which is expected to start from the morning hours in central and eastern Makedonya, Trakya, Teselya, the Sporad Islands, and the Northeastern Aegean, is forecasted to spread to other regions as the day progresses. These expected rains may help to break the high temperatures and humid weather that have been affecting the area for a few days, at least slightly. However, meteorology authorities emphasize the need to take precautions against sudden storms and possible flooding.
