Zelenskiy Instructed Intelligence to Investigate the Cause of the Explosion in Vyşneve

Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenskiy requested the Security Service (SBU) and intelligence units to conduct a detailed investigation to fully clarify the causes of the secondary explosion that occurred in the city of Vyşneve in the Kyiv region following Russia's attack. The President expressed his assessments on the matter during his nightly address to the nation. Describing the situation in the region as extremely critical and complex, Zelenskiy announced that Minister of Internal Affairs İgor Klymenko had been providing him with regular updates since dawn. Authorities are meticulously carrying out ongoing search and rescue operations, firefighting efforts, and debris removal activities in the region. The President has heavily emphasized the importance of fully revealing the background of this tragic event and the conditions that led to the explosion.

In statements made on social media accounts by Prime Minister Yuliya Sviridenko, the extent of the destruction caused by the attack was clearly revealed. According to Sviridenko, the Vyşneve region experienced the greatest destruction in civilian residential areas it has seen during Russia's comprehensive invasion attempt as a result of this attack. According to data announced by the Prime Minister's office, a massive total of thirteen hectares of residential and settlement areas were severely damaged or completely rendered unusable due to these air strikes. Due to the massive scale of the damage, the government decided to allocate a significant amount of financial resources from the reserve fund to provide emergency support to the residents in the region. Sviridenko also stated that they quickly coordinated on the ground with President Zelenskiy to immediately activate this financial support package.

Following this great disaster, numerous emergency teams were dispatched to the region, and a coordinated rescue operation was initiated on the ground. Approximately five hundred professional search and rescue personnel affiliated with the DSNS and nearly four hundred police officers actively participated in the evacuation and rescue efforts at the scene. Local administrations and civil defense teams in the region continue their efforts day and night to ensure the safety of thousands of residents. Furthermore, the Minister of Internal Affairs, the Head of the Kyiv Regional Military Administration, sappers (mine/bomb disposal teams), and municipal workers exhibited effective collaboration on the ground, contributing to the smooth progress of the operations. Prime Minister Sviridenko stated that they thanked all public officials and first responder teams on behalf of the public for their great dedication during this challenging process. Thanks to the help desks kept open throughout the night for the local population, citizens can quickly apply for compensation and support for their damaged properties.

In the background of these developments, it is known that Russia conducted one of the most comprehensive and destructive air attacks of the war against Ukraine on the night of 6 Temmuz. During this night operation, Russian forces launched simultaneous attacks on various points across the country using various types of missiles alongside a large number of kamikaze drones. According to official data shared by the Air Forces Command, Russia used a total of 419 aircraft and munitions in this single attack, challenging Ukrainian air defense systems. Ukrainian air defense units put up a great struggle, successfully neutralizing 363 of these targets. However, some unintercepted missiles and drones struck various regions, with the capital Kyiv being one of the cities that suffered the heaviest damage from these attacks.

The consequences of this comprehensive and deadly series of attacks have been severe, with many civilians, particularly in and around the capital Kyiv, losing their lives. The number of casualties from the strikes across the country has rapidly increased, reaching fifteen in the capital Kyiv alone. In the Vyşneve region, three people lost their lives, and numerous civilian structures were destroyed. Additionally, following the initial explosions, approximately five hundred residences were immediately evacuated due to the risk of a secondary explosion caused by explosive remnants. The Ukrainian administration continues to call on the international community to provide more air defense systems and support to stop such mass attacks by Russia. Now, all attention is turned toward clarifying how the secondary explosion in Vyşneve occurred and identifying those responsible for these events under international law.
