Aharneş fire being brought under control: Air-supported firefighting continues

Efforts to intervene in the forest fire that broke out in the Aharneş region of Atina and threatened a wide area are continuing intensely. Firefighting teams dispatched to the scene are putting up a great fight to prevent the flames from jumping to residential areas. Since the beginning of the fire, a large number of reinforcements have been sent to the region, and every effort is being made to bring the situation under control. Although local authorities paint a positive picture regarding the current course of the fire, the presence of teams in the area continues at full capacity. Firefighting operations are supported from the air as well as from the ground to make them more effective.

Within the scope of fighting the fire, a total of 32 firefighters along with a specially trained pedestrian firefighting team have been dispatched to the region. To strengthen the interventions from the ground, 10 different fire vehicles are actively serving in the field. These vehicles are positioned at strategic points to cut the direction of the fire's spread and ensure water reaches hot spots. The efforts of the pedestrian teams (pezoporo) to cut off the flames even in difficult terrain conditions show that the operation is continuing with determination. This intensive ground intervention is of great importance to prevent the fire from spreading to wider areas.

As the flames approached residential areas, the air intervention capacity has been increased, and currently, three different aircraft are patrolling the sky. These aircraft attack the hottest spots of the fire with water drops, facilitating the work of the ground teams and trying to prevent the flames from rising. Without air support, controlling the fire in steep and difficult terrain conditions would have been much harder. The coordinated work of these aircraft has significantly increased the speed and effectiveness of the intervention. In this way, a wider area can be protected without losing time in intervening with the fire.

Recent reports from the region indicate that the picture of the fire has improved and the fire is partially under control. In statements made by official sources, it is stated that the current course of the fire is evolving positively thanks to the intense efforts of the fire crews. However, the risk of the fire flaring up again due to a change in wind direction or the effect of a heat wave is not considered fully over. Therefore, the teams remain on alert to fully extinguish the fire and complete cooling operations. Observations on the ground show that the intensity of the flames has decreased, but smoke density is still continuing.

Forest fires frequently seen in the suburbs of Atina pose a great threat, especially under the influence of hot and dry weather during the summer months. This recent fire in the Aharneş region has once again revealed how high the fire risk is in the country and the unpredictability of natural events. The professional capacity of the fire brigade, both on land and in the air, plays a vital role in intervening in such disasters. It is of great importance for citizens' safety to heed the warnings of officials and stay away from areas with fire risk. Consequently, although the fire in Aharneş was brought under control without causing major damage to residential areas, the necessity of being prepared against natural disasters should not be forgotten.
