In Antalya's famous cliffs region, a heartbreaking scene that would shake the balance of the marine ecosystem was encountered during routine diving work by underwater photographers and divers. Led by Antalya Provincial Representative of the Turkish Underwater Sports Federation and underwater photographer Taner Şahakalkan, divers noticed an unusual movement in the water during the dive and unfortunately determined that a large number of baby stingrays had lost their lives. These lifeless bodies underwater raised serious question marks regarding the neglect of natural life in the region, and it was ensured that information was immediately given to the relevant authorities.

In initial examinations, it was determined that there were nearly 30 dead baby stingrays underwater. Divers thought they were alive and moving when they first encountered them, but when they approached, they unfortunately saw that all were dead. Detailed examinations of the baby stingrays' bodies revealed cut marks, suggesting that this situation points to unconsicous fishing activities. This scene was both shocking and a source of deep sorrow for photographers diving into the depths of the underwater world to document these beauties.

Based on the findings obtained at the scene and observations, strong predictions began to be made regarding the cause of the stingrays' deaths. In the assessment made by Taner Şahakalkan and his team, focus is on the possibility that these innocent babies might have gotten caught in a net fired near the shore. It was expressed that the baby stingrays removed from the net by fishermen might have been released back into the sea without applying any care or treatment to ensure their survival, and that they might have lost their lives during this process. Such situations carry a serious warning nature for sustainable fishing and the protection of marine life.

Taner Şahakalkan, making a statement regarding the issue, shared his emotions and technical determinations, expressing the disappointment experienced. Şahakalkan stated that the scene they saw underwater deeply upset them and that the cut marks detected on the stingrays could have originated from fishing activities. Emphasizing that they recorded the necessary visuals and videos and reported the situation to the relevant authorities, Şahakalkan reminded that protecting the marine ecosystem is a duty falling not only to nature lovers but to all humanity. He called for measures to be taken to prevent these creatures from losing their lives due to unconscious hunting methods.

The fact that stingrays and similar species play a vital role in the marine ecosystem emerges as a reality that should not be ignored. In addition to being an important link in the food chain, stingrays also serve as balancers of the seabed. The protection of such sensitive creatures, especially during their juvenile periods, is of great importance for the sustainability of the seas' biodiversity for future generations. Experts and nature conservation volunteers agree that fishing laws should be strictly applied and unconscious hunting should be prevented to ensure that this sad event is not repeated. The dead baby stingrays identified in the Antalya cliffs remain as a concrete example of the damage inflicted on marine life by human influence.
