Thousands of smuggled goods seized in Artvin's gendarmerie smuggling operations in haziran ayı

Artvin İl Jandarma Komutanlığı continues its comprehensive operations within the scope of the fight against smuggling and organized crime. As a result of the uninterrupted inspections carried out throughout the past month, a very large amount of smuggled goods were seized before being released to the market. These successful operations are of great importance in terms of preventing illegal trade and ensuring public order in the region. Gendarmerie teams continue to fight decisively against smuggling activities that endanger public health. It is aimed that these activities will make positive contributions to the peace and security of the citizens living across the province.

According to the information obtained, a comprehensive inspection and operation activity was carried out by the gendarmerie units across Artvin between 1 ila 30 Haziran 2026. During this process, the teams meticulously scanned suspicious vehicles, warehouses, and open areas, following various traces. During the searches, a massive stock of smuggled goods, believed to have been illegally brought into the country, was uncovered. During the operations, thousands of packs of smuggled cigarettes, along with nearly a hundred liters of smuggled alcoholic beverages and rolling tobacco were brought to light. The quantity of these seized goods indicates the existence of a significant volume of illegal trade in the region.

Among the seized smuggled goods, 5 bin 312 packs of smuggled cigarettes and 9 kilogram of rolling tobacco stand out in particular. In addition to cigarettes, 182 liters of smuggled alcoholic beverages were also confiscated during the operation. Such unregistered and unsupervised goods both cause economic losses for the state and seriously threaten consumer health. The fact that smuggled alcoholic beverages may contain toxic substances such as methanol once again reveals how vital such operations are for public health. Security forces continue their work at full speed to dismantle the distribution networks of these goods.

Within the scope of the investigations launched to identify individuals involved in illegal trade activities, 18 suspects were apprehended. It is assessed that these detained individuals are part of a broad network ranging from the supply to the distribution of the seized smuggled goods. It was reported that after the procedures were completed, the suspects were referred to the judicial authorities and the necessary legal processes were initiated against them. Authorities emphasize that the fight against organized crime syndicates and smugglers will continue with determination. Such operations play an effective role in reducing crime rates in the region and punishing the offenders.
