Young Man Severely Injured in Chain-Reaction Traffic Accident in Bursa Loses His Life

Trabzonlu Alpay Kurt, who was severely injured in a horrific chain-reaction traffic accident that occurred in the Kestel district of Bursa on 6 Temmuz, lost his three-day struggle for life in the hospital where he was being treated. The death of the young man, who was being treated in the intensive care unit at Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi Hastanesi, plunged his loved ones into deep mourning, especially in the Tonya district of Trabzon. It was learned that Kurt, known as the theficial victim of the incident, will have his body sent to his hometown of Tonya to be buried there. Authorities explained that the accident occurred when a truck experiencing a mechanical failure went out of control and struck multiple vehicles sharing the road. This tragic event once again highlighted the devastating consequences that fatal accidents on the roads connecting different cities of Türkiye can cause.

The accident occurred on the morning of 6 Temmuz, at around 09.00, on the Bursa-Ankara highway in the direction of Bursa. Allegedly, the brakes of a truck loaded with sheet profiles, driven by Ramazan Ö., failed, and the driver completely lost control of the vehicle. The massive truck, now out of control, first rear-ended a car driven by Salih K. Unable to stop, the truck then hit another car and a second truck driven by Murat S., causing a chain-reaction accident. With the force of the collision, the truck ran over the car containing Alpay Kurt, dragging it for a long distance.

The severity of the accident literally created a battlefield at the scene and resulted in multiple injuries. Upon notification, police, firefighters, and numerous medical teams were immediately dispatched to the area. Ramazan Ö. and Alpay Kurt, whose lives were in danger after being trapped inside their vehicles, were extracted from the wreckage following a lengthy and arduous effort by the fire crews. The injured, who were in critical condition and severely hurt, were urgently transferred to various hospitals in the region. Alongside Kurt, the other drivers involved in the crash and a passenger in one of the cars, Hamide K., were also hospitalized with various injuries to their bodies.

Alpay Kurt, rescued in critical condition from the accident, fought for his life for three days in the intensive care unit of Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi Hastanesi. Despite all medical interventions, the young man could not be saved and passed away despite the doctors' best efforts. When the bitter news reached Kurt's family and wide circle of friends in the Tonya district of Trabzon, it caused great sorrow and a flood of tears. The sudden and tragic death of a young person quickly spread on social media, leading to an influx of condolence messages from many individuals. This grievous event clearly demonstrated the unpredictable, irreversible, and devastating power of traffic accidents on human life.

Following an initial ceremony to be held in Bursa for Alpay Kurt's remains, his body will be sent to his hometown of Trabzon. Today, before the afternoon prayer, a forgiveness ceremony (helallik) is planned to take place in front of his family's home in the Değirmenönü neighborhood of Bursa. After these initial farewell procedures, the body will be brought to Kaleönü Mahallesi, a neighborhood in the Tonya district of Trabzon. Immediately following the Friday prayer, Kurt will be sent on his final journey at the family cemetery located in Kaleönü Mahallesi. His loved ones and family aim to come together during these difficult times to share the grief of the young man's loss and entrust him to his eternal rest.
