Dacia Starts a New Era: The Striker Model Could Change the Brand's History

For the last twenty years, the European and Spanish automotive markets have shown great interest in SUV models, which were thought to meet every need of consumers. However, many of the features offered by these vehicles were actually largely unnecessary and redundant for daily use. While almost all automakers were directing their product ranges towards this body type, traditional models such as sedans and station wagons unfortunately began to slowly disappear from showrooms. Despite this, Dacia, remaining faithful to the philosophy that brought the brand success, believes there is still room in the market for a different design that blends the concepts of SUV and Crossover. The brand, which is part of the Renault group, announced its new era claim to the whole world by holding the vehicle's launch in Milano.

Dacia's new model, the Striker, is positioned as a new-generation crossover rather than being defined as a traditional SUV or todocamino. This vehicle aims to bring together three different concepts: the high position and robustness of an SUV, the cargo-carrying capacity of a station wagon, and the fuel efficiency of a hatchback sedan. The brand is confident that it can achieve this challenging goal by following in the footsteps of models like the Sandero and Duster, which achieved similar successes years ago. The main goal of the Striker is to establish a strong presence in the C segment, beyond the Bigster model, where sales are expected to account for one-third of its total by 2035. The company aims to increase its market share by more than ten points in this highly competitive market segment.

When examining the physical dimensions of the vehicle, it is seen that with its length of 4,62 meters, it is almost the same size as its competitors such as Hyundai Tucson, Kia Sportage, or Volkswagen Tiguan. The main difference reveals itself in the vehicle's height; because with a height of only 1,53 meters, Striker offers a design that is seven to ten centimeters lower than most SUVs in its class. Thanks to a ground clearance of up to 20 centimeters in four-wheel-drive versions, it retains its off-road capacity, while the strategy of minimizing aerodynamic drag has been implemented extremely successfully. This smart combination manages to highlight the vehicle's visual appeal and silhouette while preserving ease of access to the cabin and the feeling of dominance behind the steering wheel.

David Durand, head of the design team, states that the vehicle's design is shaped around a horizontal line that clearly divides the body in two, and this determines the car's overall identity. While the upper part of the body resembles a sedan or station wagon with its flowing surfaces and long roof structure, the lower part draws attention with its more vertical volumes and prominent protectors. This stepped structure strongly reflects the impression that the vehicle is always ready to leave the asphalt and enter tough terrains. Refusing to look like an extreme or rough off-road vehicle or to be an ordinary tall car, the vehicle differentiates itself from the rounded lines of its competitors. The new and exclusive 'T'-shaped lighting signature at the front adds a modern and aggressive air to the automobile.

Aerodynamic efficiency, one of the project's biggest focal points, allows the vehicle to clearly stand out from its competitors with a drag coefficient (Cx) of 0,29. Elements such as the partially covered underbody, rear wing, low body height, and detailed management of wind currents support this successful aerodynamic figure. Thanks to this innovative approach, the vehicle manages to stay light with a weight of around 1.400 kilograms compared to many direct rivals. Low weight and aerodynamic structure pull down fuel consumption and total cost of ownership (TCO), turning into one of the brand's biggest weapons. The Striker offers a wide range, from a 140-horsepower gasoline or LPG-supported micro-hybrid engine at the entry level, to a 155-horsepower self-charging hybrid option that can run entirely on electricity 80 percent of the time in the city. In addition, the 150-horsepower four-wheel-drive hybrid engine option, along with a trunk volume of up to 600 liters and modular interior features, propel the vehicle to a very strong position in the market.
