With the new appointment decree published by the Presidency, the governors of many provinces across Turkey have changed. Within this scope, Tahir Şahin, who previously successfully served as the district governor in Çanakkale’s Lapseki district, was appointed to the Governorship of Trabzon. Şahin, known for his public administration experience spanning many years, this new appointment created wide repercussions in both Çanakkale and Trabzon public opinion. The appointment decision was announced through an official decree bearing the signature of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. With the aforementioned decree, new names were assigned to the governorship seats in eighteen different provinces.

Tahir Şahin’s career in civil administration began when he won the District Governor Candidate Exam organized by the Ministry of Interior in 2004. Originally from Kayseri, Şahin was born in Adana in 1977 and completed his primary and secondary education years in this city. In his higher education life, Şahin chose Istanbul University Faculty of Political Sciences and successfully graduated from here in 2001. His deep interest in public administration soon led him to one of the most difficult exams of the profession. Following his candidate training, he had the opportunity to gain field experience by undertaking various administrative duties in different regions of Turkey.

One of his first important duties in the field was sitting in the district governorship office in Muş’s Varto district. Following his successful performance in Varto, he was appointed as the district governor to Çanakkale’s Lapseki district in July 2015. The approximately five-year period spent in Lapseki is considered one of the most prominent periods in Şahin’s career. Serving in this district until July 2020, Şahin was highly loved in the region with his administrative work and public services responsive to the demands of the people. This strong bond he established with Çanakkale is still frequently remembered in the local press today.

The published decree does not only cover Tahir Şahin’s appointment but also indicates a rooted change of duty. Accordingly, experienced names such as Trabzon Governor Aziz Yıldırım, Düzce Governor Selçuk Aslan, Iğdır Governor Ercan Turan and Aksaray Governor Mehmet Ali Kumbuzoğlu were appointed as governor-civil chief inspectors. Similarly, Yalova Governor Hülya Kaya, Eskişehir Governor Hüseyin Aksoy and Denizli Governor Ömer Faruk Coşkun were also brought to the central organization within the scope of this new assignment. These appointments are considered part of the routine rotation in the civil administration system.

With the decree, the other governors appointed to different provinces were also revealed, thus starting a new era in the administration of eighteen provinces. While Mehmet Fatih Çiçekli was brought to Ardahan, Mustafa Fırat Taşolar to Iğdır, Cahit Çelik to Bingöl and Mustafa Koç to the governorships of Giresun, some provinces had names appointed who had served in different duties in previous periods. For example, Yavuz Selim Köşger, Erdinç Yılmaz and Mustafa Yavuz took seats in the governorship offices of major cities such as Denizli, Eskişehir and Adana respectively. In addition, new governors were appointed to the provinces of Karaman, Yalova, Düzce, Osmaniye, Kilis, Kırıkkale, Karabük, Niğde, Çankırı and Ağrı, realizing a major personnel change.
