Access blocked to 2,702 social media accounts linked to FETÖ

Chairman of the Communications Burhanettin Duran announced that the fight against terrorist propaganda, disinformation, and psychological warfare activities in digital media is being pursued with determination. As part of meticulous investigations conducted by authorized authorities, legal proceedings have been initiated against thousands of accounts identified as being linked to FETÖ within the last month. In this context, an access blocking order was issued for a total of 2,702 social media accounts acting as digital extensions of the mentioned terrorist organization. Duran emphasized that the fight continues uninterruptedly in cyberspace, as well as on the ground, to minimize the negative impacts of digital terrorism and manipulation attempts on society. It was reported that the measures in question constitute one of the critical steps taken against elements threatening national security.

It was highlighted that digital platforms are frequently used by terrorist organizations as tools for spreading propaganda. Psychological warfare activities conducted especially through social networks aim to mislead the public and disrupt public order. To eliminate these threats, relevant authorities continuously monitor suspicious and criminal content on the internet. The Directorate of Communications and other security units continue to develop rapid intervention strategies and raise public awareness against waves of disinformation. Identifying terrorist organization links through captured digital footprints is transferred to the judiciary to ensure that criminals face legal consequences.

It is noted that the blocked accounts actively played a role in the organization's perception management and content production networks. It has been determined that calls were made to sympathizers of the organization through these accounts and attempts were made to mislead the public with fake news. The terrorist organization's efforts to use different digital platforms to hide its international connections and evade legal prosecution have appeared on the radar of security units. The process of detecting and shutting down the accounts was carried out with great precision accompanied by cyber intelligence and security analyses. Such risky activities in digital media are considered a serious threat not only to national security but also to the health of the global digital ecosystem.

It was learned that long-term and comprehensive strategies are also being implemented to increase society's resilience against disinformation. The Chairman of the Communications stated that ensuring public access to accurate information is as vitally important as the technical interventions carried out. To counter the spread rate of false information, various communication channels are effectively used to share official and accurate information with the public in a timely manner. Digital literacy efforts are being increased, and awareness campaigns are conducted to help citizens recognize manipulative content. Through this, it is aimed to prevent psychological operations carried out in cyberspace from achieving their goals.

Authorities emphasized that maximum adherence to transparency and legal boundaries is observed at every stage of this struggle conducted within the framework of the rule of law. Access blocks and measures regarding digital content are implemented with the approval of relevant courts and legal authorities. It was announced that the fight against similar digital threats will continue with determination and without compromise in the upcoming period.
