This Week's Investment Winners Announced: Gold and Borsa İstanbul Stood Out

This week, across financial markets in general, investors obtained positive returns from different instruments. In Borsa İstanbul, the BIST 100 index managed to close the week in positive territory, despite following a volatile course throughout the week. The index rose from its lowest level of the week at 14.031,72 points to its highest level of 14.511,73 points. On the last day of the week, it gained 1,01 percent compared to the previous close, trading at 14.417,91 points. This rise provided a satisfactory return on a weekly basis for stock market investors.

One of the most profitable investment instruments of the week was undoubtedly gold. The gram sales price of 24-karat bullion gold traded in Kapalıçarşı increased by 2,79 percent on a weekly basis. With this rise, the price of gram gold reached the level of 6 bin 267 lira. Cumhuriyet gold also gained 2,77 percent in the same period, reaching 42 bin 238 lira. Quarter gold continued to trade at 10 bin 497 lira with an increase of 2,79 percent, thus making it a highly profitable week for gold investors.

In exchange rates, more limited and modest increases were observed this week. The US dollar rose by 0,38 percent on a weekly basis, reaching the level of 46,8040 lira. The Euro followed a similar course, finishing the week at 53,5700 lira with a 0,49 percent increase. The low-rate increases of both currencies can be considered an indicator of relative calm in the foreign exchange market. This situation provided a positive, albeit limited, return for foreign exchange investors on a weekly basis.

A positive picture also emerged in the investment funds market this week, and the funds gained value in general. In total, investment funds grew by 1,81 percent, distributing profits to their investors. In pension investment funds, the increase rate was realized at 0,75 percent. Particularly noteworthy among the fund categories was that the highest return was provided by free funds. Free funds stood out as the most profitable fund type with a remarkable return of 2,39 percent on a weekly basis.

In a general evaluation, gold stood out as the most prominent profitable instrument in financial markets this week, with almost all types of gold gaining value in the 2,8 percent range. The BIST 100 index offering a return of over 1 percent was also encouraging for stock investors. The positive performance in investment funds was supported particularly by the high return of free funds. Considering the limited increases in exchange rates, the strongest investment instruments of the week were recorded as gold and various investment funds.
