Cattle Herder Survives Lion Attack by Keeping Calm in India

In an incident that occurred in Garajiya village of Bhavnagar district in India's Gujarat state, a cattle herder managed to survive a terrifying attack by a lioness. As a result of the attack, the man collapsed to the ground, and the wild animal stayed on top of him, pinning him down for about half an hour. The moment of the incident went viral after being recorded by a person on their mobile phone camera. These heart-stopping moments captured in the footage quickly reached a large audience on social media and garnered global attention. The date of the incident was recorded as Sunday, July 5.

In the footage spreading on social media, the bloodied man is seen lying motionless next to a pickup truck while the lion stands over him. Despite bleeding underneath the animal, the shepherd resisted the urge to struggle and maintained his calm, avoiding provoking the animal. In fact, at one point, he is seen cautiously reaching out and gently trying to stroke the lion to calm the attack. This extraordinary composed behavior is believed to have prevented the situation from becoming even more dangerous. These tense moments once again highlighted how crucial survival instincts and calmness are.

During the incident, villagers gathered at a safe distance, shouting and throwing stones to try to scare the lion away. However, none of them dared to intervene directly or attempted to step in. This standoff lasted for several minutes until the lion finally released the man. According to a statement by Shatrunjay Regional Deputy Forest Conservator Chirag Amin, after releasing the man, the lioness walked away towards a nearby cattle shelter. This moment came as a huge relief for both the villagers and the victim.

The victim was identified as Kalubhai Parmar and was initially taken to a government hospital in Palitana. Parmar was later transferred to Bhavnagar for advanced treatment, and forest authorities confirmed that his condition is improving and he is out of life-threatening danger. In a statement from the Palitana Regional Forest Office, it was noted that the incident occurred after villagers spotted the lioness in the village and raised an alarm. Officials stated that the animal was actually trying to leave the area, and the man sustained his injuries during this process.

The forest department praised Parmar for his extraordinary courage, patience, quick mental reflexes, and mental calmness, emphasizing that his calm reaction prevented the situation from becoming more dangerous. Authorities launched an operation to capture the lioness, and it was reported that the operation is still ongoing. Additionally, officials warned the public not to chase, provoke, or attempt to drive the animal away, advising anyone who sees the lion to immediately inform the forest department. This incident also brought to mind the importance of precautions that need to be taken in areas where wildlife is so close to human settlements.
