Escalation in the Strait of Hormuz: US and Iran Continue Mutual Attacks

Tensions between the United States and Iran in the Strait of Hormuz region have reached a dangerous level. According to a Pentagon statement, US missiles struck 140 targets in various Iranian port cities, including Bandar Abbas, Bushehr, and Qeshm Island. At least one Iranian soldier lost his life in the attacks; this operation was carried out in retaliation for an attack by the Revolutionary Guards on commercial ships trying to pass through the region.

The Iranian administration announced that the strategically critical Strait of Hormuz has been closed to all ship traffic until further notice. In response, US President Donald Trump stated that American forces would do whatever is necessary to keep this crucial maritime passage open. An Iranian official claimed that the strait is more important to the world than dozens of atomic bombs.

The military conflict between the parties spread across the broader region; the Revolutionary Guards carried out missile and drone attacks on American bases in Kuwait, Bahrain, Jordan, Oman, and Qatar, resulting in at least three injuries. While Iran also emphasized its insistence on taking revenge for the killing of Ali Khamenei, a senior Iranian adviser threatened that Trump would not be safe even in the White House.
