Reggio Calabria Metropolitan Hospital in Italy Puts New 3 Tesla MRI Device into Service

The journey of the Metropolitan Hospital (Grande Ospedale Metropolitano), located in the Reggio Calabria city of İtalya, to strengthen its medical technology infrastructure has reached a significant milestone. As part of the hospital's renewal process, a groundbreaking new 3 Tesla Magnetic Resonance (MR) device in the field of imaging was officially put into service. This high-end device was installed in the Radiology unit of the hospital's Morelli campus. Hospital management stated that this device will directly increase the quality of healthcare services in the region and that patients will receive more precise diagnoses. This development stands out as concrete proof of how medical technology is advancing at the local level.

The hospital's chief physicians, administrative staff, and numerous local civilian and military officials attended the official opening ceremony. Speaking at the ceremony, Extraordinary Commissioner Tiziana Frittelli emphasized the device's central importance by highlighting the institution's breakthroughs in recent years. Frittelli stated that this new 3 Tesla MR device is the second high-level MR system acquired for the hospital and also the eighth and final piece of equipment purchased with the remaining funds of the national recovery plan (PNRR). It was also noted that the room housing the new device was designed with massive visuals of the Reggio Calabria city's breathtaking landscapes to reduce patient stress. The administration specifically emphasized the great dedication of their technical teams behind this process.

The newly established 3 Tesla Magnetic Resonance system was specially designed to meet the imaging needs of today and the future. The device has state-of-the-art clinical software support for head, neck, spine, musculoskeletal, and whole-body imaging. The hardware's renewed user interface significantly increases the control and ease of use for healthcare personnel during examinations. In addition to this high-end technology, a new CT (Computed Tomography) scanner, two remote-controlled systems, a mammography device, and bone measurement software had been previously installed in the region. With these investments, the hospital has created a fully equipped and integrated imaging center for the citizens who apply to it.

The opening event was not limited to the introduction of a new MR device; other important medical units acquired by the hospital were also unveiled. Chief among these is the multidisciplinary 'Aortic Team', which aims to optimize the treatment processes of patients with complex aortic diseases. It was stated that this team makes the hospital the seventh in İtalya to hold this certification. This specialized unit brings together experts from various fields such as Vascular Surgery, Cardiac Surgery, Intensive Care, Radiology, Cardiology, and Cardiac Surgery Anesthesiology. Furthermore, new outpatient clinics belonging to the Orthopedics and Traumatology departments were also opened, increasing efficiency, as in hip fracture intervention processes.

Hospital officials also used the opening day as an opportunity to evaluate the institution's financial statements and overall success. Tiziana Frittelli announced that the hospital closed the year with an active budget surplus and that this is a great source of pride. It was announced that an increase of approximately 18 million Euro was achieved in the production value compared to 2024. Thanks to this financial success, the institution did not make any cuts in staff or services while purchasing next-generation equipment and innovative drugs. The ceremony ended with healthcare personnel touring the departments and prayers led by priest Antonino Quaresima for the new device to bring good.
