Czech Government Takes Over Karlovy Vary Airport: Opening for Military and NATO Use

The Czech government has officially decided to take over the management of the strategically important Karlovy Vary (Karlovarské) Airport in the country. Approved at a cabinet meeting held on Monday, this decision will transfer the ownership and operation of the airport to the state. In this context, the Czech Ministry of Defense will provide the necessary financing and take on the coordination for the renovation of the runway and infrastructure. The existing flight and landing runway will be brought up to the technical standards required by modern military aircraft and emergency helicopters. In particular, strengthening the runway's infrastructure and updating its technological systems are among the biggest priorities for the upcoming period. Thanks to this investment, the airport will be rebuilt as a modern facility suitable for the use of heavy military transport aircraft as well.
