Kazakhstan's Changing Connectivity Strategy with the Trans-Caspian Cable Project

Kazakhstan is expanding its connectivity strategy from highways, railways, and pipelines to digital infrastructure. The Trans-Caspian fiber-optic cable project will be the first submarine telecommunication connection to pass under the Caspian Sea. The project will create a new digital corridor between Central Asia, South Caucasus, and Europe.

The importance of the project goes beyond technical operation. The development of digital infrastructure will be a significant step for international corridors and cross-border data flows. Kazakhstan President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has demanded the completion of the project, emphasizing its importance in ensuring the connection of digital infrastructure with international corridors and cross-border data flows.

The completion of the project is expected by the end of 2026. The project is being implemented by CaspiLink B.V., a joint venture between Kazakhtelecom and AzerTelecom.
