Kremlin Warns Trump: Ukraine Attacks Could Prolong War Instead of Ending It Quickly

Russia strongly rejected the United States' assessment that increasing Ukraine's attacks on Russian territory could end the war more quickly. Kremlin Spokesperson Dmitri Peskov stated that the White House administration's belief that military pressure and escalation could lead to a peaceful solution is fundamentally flawed. Peskov argued that this approach would not only prolong the conflict but also cause Moscow to expand its security zone further. The Russian official emphasized that steps escalating tensions would in no way contribute to the peace process. These statements once again exposed the strategic differences of opinion between the two countries regarding the end of the war.

The statements came after US Secretary of State Marco Rubio's assessments at the NATO summit held in Türkiye. Rubio stated that Russia is increasingly struggling to protect its airspace and that this situation could create a suitable ground for negotiations. US President Donald Trump also suggested that the steps taken by Ukraine were an escalation, but that this escalation could ultimately help end the war. When combined with the military support he provided to Kiev, Trump's rhetoric suggested a clear change in Washington's strategy. The Kremlin's harsh response to these assessments deepened the differences in vision for peace between the parties.

Shortly before these developments, US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski held a closed-door meeting on the sidelines of the NATO summit. In this critical meeting, Trump promised to allow Ukraine to produce Patriot missiles, which are of vital importance for air defense systems, on its own soil. This decision is considered a major turning point for Kiev in the supply of these critical missile systems, which are currently produced only on American soil. Responding to a question regarding this arms supply decision, Peskov stated that Moscow does not view the situation through rose-colored glasses and that Putin is fully aware of the matter. However, he added that, unlike Europe, they believe the US's desire to advance the peace process is sincere, indicating the dual nature of Washington's stance.

On the other hand, Ukraine has significantly intensified its military operations targeting the Crimean peninsula, which Russia annexed in 2014. In addition to expanding attacks on the land corridor connecting Russia to Crimea, the forces are now also targeting sea routes in the Sea of Azov. According to a statement made by Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles commander Robert Brovdi, at least 25 Russian ships were hit and burst into flames in the last four days. The main objective of these operations is to establish a comprehensive logistical blockade to make it difficult for Russian forces in the peninsula to transport fuel and supplies. While these strategic moves deal a serious blow to Moscow's naval capacity, they directly threaten Vladimir Putin's efforts to keep the logistical flow in Crimea alive.

Ukraine's comprehensive military moves in and around Crimea may mark a new phase in the course of the war. However, the possibility that Russia's response to this escalation could prolong the war casts a shadow over peace hopes in the international community. The support provided by the US to Ukraine, both in terms of military production capacity and tactical aspects, will be decisive in the course of the conflict. On the other hand, the belief expressed by the Kremlin, albeit cautiously, that Washington still harbors a desire for peace, unlike European countries, indicates that diplomatic solutions are not completely off the table. All these dynamics show that tensions in the region are running high and that both sides continue to increase their strategic moves in an effort to turn the war in their favor.
