Heavy rainfall in Mexico caused flooding and transportation disruptions

The heavy rains that hit Mexico (CDMX) on the evening of July 12 caused severe damage across the city. While floods, water puddles, and toppled trees negatively affected transportation, authorities urged local residents to be cautious due to potential hail and landslides.

The Xochimilco borough, particularly the Santa Cruz Xochitepec neighborhood, was among the most affected areas due to severe flooding. Firefighting teams worked intensively over an area of approximately 300 meters to drain accumulated water on the roads. Additionally, trees between 12 and 20 meters long, along with large fallen branches in various areas, posed security threats.

Adverse weather conditions also paralyzed public transportation; speeds of trains and buses on Metro and Metrobüs lines were reduced as a safety protocol. In the State of Mexico, vehicle traffic was also disrupted in areas such as the La Paz municipality due to critical water accumulation.
