New Political Alliance Against PPP in Pakistan: Preparations Continue in Matiari Region

Preparations for establishing an opposition political alliance against the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) have gained momentum in the Matiari district of Pakistan's Sind province. Mehdum Muhsin, a prominent figure from the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), detailed efforts to form a new political bloc in a statement. It was noted that the alliance's first major mass event will be held on 15 Ağustos, launching with a public rally in Bhit Şah. In an exclusive interview with Time News, Muhsin spoke of the need to offer the public a strong alternative. This move highlights the goal of forming an organized local opposition against the current political power.

It was stated that the provisional name of this new political group to be formed will be the 'Matiari Bölgesel İttifakı', but this name might change in the future. It was emphasized that the scope of the alliance will not be kept narrow, and it is aimed to include various political parties in the Matiari district in this coalition. It was announced that many figures, including local leaders of parties such as the Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N), Camiat Ulema-yi İslam (JUI), and Cemaat-i İslami (JI), as well as nationalist groups, will be invited to join the alliance. Mehdum Muhsin added in his remarks that these steps will initially be limited only to Matiari, but if successful, they aim to spread the model to the entire Sind province. Believing that the people of the region have long needed a political alternative, the leaders plan to fill this void in the field with this coalition.

Mehdum Muhsin reminded that a similar alliance was formed in Matiari in 2013 and that the public showed great support for this initiative, reacting positively. However, he stated that in Pakistan politics, 'selection' processes rather than 'elections' prevailing has resulted in consequences detrimental to the country and its people. Regarding the formation of the new alliance, he categorically rejected claims that it is a structure backed by the 'istihbarat örgütü' or the army in Pakistan. On the contrary, claiming that the PPP owes its current power to the support of the intelligence organization, Muhsin argued that the presence of the military and intelligence in the country is an undeniable reality, but asserted that they will walk a parallel line with these institutions. These statements are considered a significant message in the context of military-civilian relations, which are frequently debated in Pakistan politics.

The PTI leader also explicitly condemned the actions carried out by party members during the 9 Mayıs events, stating that such violent behaviors are absolutely wrong. Muhsin expressed that he has personal enmity with some senior executives within the PPP and that they will reject any offer from the PPP as long as these individuals are influential in the party. Touching upon his future political strategies, Muhsin added that he wants to run as a candidate from a national-level constituency and will exhibit strong competition in the elections. Promising that they will not engage in any acts of revenge against their political rivals if they win the elections and come to power, Muhsin announced that his past disagreements with his party are now behind him and that he has rejoined the ranks.

Mehdum Muhsin expressed his criticisms, stating that the youth in the party maintained their ranks alongside them, but some senior and older figures preferred to sit on the sidelines and take a knee by hand instead of going into the field. Addressing his disagreements with his father and PTI leader Mehdum Fazl Hüseyin, Muhsin emphasized that he does not want to discuss family matters through the media. Stating that he always prays for the best for his father, the leader also refuted rumors in the media that his real estate properties were taken back from him, arguing that the environment is not that tense. Finally, he stated that there are many unrepaired roads in the Sind province, and there are deep problems to be solved in the fields of health, employment, and education in the Matiari district. He emphasized in his words that the main purpose of the alliance they have formed is to produce concrete solutions to these daily problems of the people.
