Punjab Amarnath Yatra Pilgrim Found Dead in Hotel

A 40-year-old pilgrim from Punjab province passed away at a hotel in the Sonamarg region on Friday during the ongoing Amarnath Yatra visit. Authorities announced that the deceased was identified as Narinder Kumar, son of Parminder Kumar, a resident of Barnala district, Punjab. Kumar was found unconscious in his hotel room at the time of the incident. Although the pilgrim was in critical condition and was immediately attempted to be taken to a local health facility, he could not be saved despite all interventions.

Kumar was first transferred to the Primary Health Centre (PHC) in Sonamarg by the health team that arrived at the scene. Following emergency checks and necessary medical procedures by doctors at the center, the pilgrim was officially declared dead. Legal proceedings were initiated to hand over the body to the family after the completion of the autopsy and relevant medico-legal procedures. Authorities launched an investigation into the details of the incident and the exact cause of death.

Due to the suspicious nature of the incident, police are deepening the investigation to clarify the cause of death. Police created an investigation record under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). This process is being conducted to determine whether Kumar's death was caused by natural reasons or an external factor. Following the preliminary examination, the body was kept under custody to be handed over to the family within the framework of legal procedures.

The fact that Kumar hailed from Barnala district of Punjab caused the news to be widely echoed in local media and created deep sorrow. His family initiated necessary procedures to receive Sharma's body and fulfill their last duties. While authorities expressed condolences to the family, they stated that efforts to shed light on the incident were continuing rapidly. During Kumar's identification, his relatives were contacted to finalize his identity information.

Security and health teams in the region continue their preparations to prevent similar incidents in large-scale organizations open to the public like Amarnath Yatra. This incident in Sonamarg has brought security concerns among pilgrims back to the agenda, while police and administrative authorities are monitoring the situation closely.
