DEAŞ Cell Behind Bloody Attacks in Damascus Caught

The Syrian Ministry of Interior officially announced that all members of the cell responsible for the terrifying bomb attacks in the capital, Şam, have been captured by security forces. According to the latest information from ministry officials, all suspects were taken into custody as part of the operations and handed over to relevant units for interrogation. The capture of the perpetrators behind the attacks is considered a major security achievement for the new administration working to establish stability in the country. Officials emphasized that the operations will continue in different regions thereafter and that terrorist organizations will be tracked. This development aims to partially alleviate the security concerns weighing on the people of Şam.

It was reported that the security operation spanned a vast geographical area and was executed with flawless simultaneity. Coordinated by the Syrian General Intelligence Organization, the operations were not limited to central Şam. Outlying suburbs and rural areas were also included; simultaneous raids were conducted at strategic locations such as Katife, Seyyide Zeyneb, Kudseya banliyösü, and Aş el-Verver. This comprehensive operation demonstrates that security forces acted with multi-faceted coordination based on intelligence. The simultaneous nature of the raids stands out as a strategic move planned to sever communication among the suspects and eliminate their chances of escape. Thus, it is stated that the entire cell was dismantled and the network was broken.

Syrian Minister of Interior Enes Hattab made a significant assessment regarding the incident via the social media platform X. In his statement, Minister Hattab announced that all members of the cell responsible for the terrorist attacks are now under the control of security forces and that no suspect managed to escape. Şam Kırsalı İç Güvenlik Komutanı Tuğgeneral Ahmed ed-Dalati shared a highly critical detail regarding the investigation process in a statement to Syrian state television. Dalati stated that the initial interrogations of the detained suspects and the preliminary evidence obtained clearly revealed that the cell was affiliated with the DEAŞ terrorist organization. This connection demonstrates that radical organizations continue to maintain their presence and pose a severe threat in the country.

In a written statement issued by the Ministry of Interior, it was emphasized that the investigation is continuing at an intensive pace to uncover the background of the incident and shed light on the entire behind-the-scenes aspects. Officials noted that all available resources are being mobilized to uncover all details of the attack, the source of the explosives used, and the cell's other national or international connections. It was learned that upon the completion of the investigation process, detailed information regarding the exact identities of the suspects in custody and their specific roles in this bloody act will be shared with the public. This step of transparency holds great importance both to inform the Syrian public and to demonstrate the effectiveness of the new security structure. It is also noted that these judicial processes will operate within the framework of the rule of law in the country.

Behind this successful security operation lies a bloody terrorist attack that occurred during the official visit of French President Emmanuel Macron to Syria. During Macron's visit, 1 person was killed when two improvised explosive devices were detonated near the former Ministry of Tourism building in Şam. In the same grave incident, 36 civilians from the surrounding area were injured to varying degrees and taken to hospitals. While no organization claimed responsibility for the attack at the time, Syrian authorities are decisively continuing their fight against terror hubs to establish full control in the country following the overthrow of the Esed regime in late 2024.
