Operation Against 20 Million TL Fraud Ring in Şanlıurfa: 6 Detentions

As a result of a comprehensive investigation centered in the Birecik district of Şanlıurfa, a significant operation was carried out against an organized crime organization alleged to have defrauded citizens using digital communication tools. Under the coordination of the Birecik Chief Public Prosecutor's Office and in line with a meticulously prepared operation plan, simultaneous raids were conducted at dawn on July 1, 2026. During searches at the addresses, a large number of digital materials and documents considered evidence of the crime were seized, and 6 suspects were detained within the scope of the operation.

In the prosecutor's examination conducted based on the detailed statements of the suspects and the seized digital data, a shocking financial picture emerged. As a result of technical and "blue gang" analyses, it was determined that the suspects defrauded thousands of citizens with traps they set up via phones and the internet, making a gain of approximately 20 million 345 thousand TL. This astronomical figure clearly reveals the magnitude of the operation and how widespread the suspects' activities were.

The 6 suspects detained were referred to judicial authorities on July 3, 2026, after the completion of their questioning and procedures at law enforcement units. The statements of the suspects were taken regarding charges such as organization membership, fraud, and establishing an organization to commit crimes, in the face of overwhelming evidence. The suspects, who underwent health checks, were sent to the on-duty court upon the request of their arrest by the Peace Criminal Court.

The suspects, whose trials continue, were arrested for the crime of 'qualified fraud' following the interrogation by the judge and were handed over to the prison. The court approved the arrest decision by considering the nature and quality of the crime, the state of evidence, and the risks of escape. This decision indicates that the legal process is proceeding rapidly and necessary steps are being taken for justice to be served. The arrested suspects were handed over to the justice system to be placed in Birecik E Type Closed Penitentiary Institution.

The scope of the investigation conducted regarding the issue has been expanded, and work continues to identify other potential victims and catch other individuals involved in the organization if any. The investigation conducted by the Birecik Chief Public Prosecutor's Office regarding the incident is being deepened, and action has been taken to seize the suspects' assets. Citizens were once again reminded to be cautious against people who identify themselves as police officers, prosecutors, or bank officials and demand money, and to immediately call the 112 Emergency Call Center to verify the situation in such cases.
