Fuat Gümüş Selected to Replace the Suspended Mayor in Seferihisar

Following the arrest and subsequent suspension of Seferihisar Mayor İsmail Yetişkin, a new name to take over the municipality's administration was determined. The Seferihisar Municipal Council convened in an extraordinary meeting to elect the deputy mayor. In the election, Fuat Gümüş, nominated by the Republican People's Party (CHP), surpassed his rivals and was elected as deputy mayor in the first round. This result became a determining step in shaping the new administrative period of the municipality. With the election of Gümüş, the CHP's governance in the Seferihisar Municipality will continue.

The extraordinary meeting of the Seferihisar Municipal Council was held under the chairmanship of Deputy Council Speaker 2 Hüseyin Kocaer. At the meeting, a fierce competition took place between Fuat Gümüş, the official candidate of the CHP, and Çağatay Rasim Çağır from the Zafer Party, who was supported by the AK Party and MHP. The election process once again revealed how crucial regional political balances and inter-party alliances are. Both candidates held various contacts to secure the support of the council members. However, the outcome of the voting clearly demonstrated the decision of the majority.

A total of 23 council members eligible to vote cast their ballots, and the results were revealed by a significant margin. CHP candidate Fuat Gümüş, with the 17 votes he received, gained a major advantage over his rival and became the elected deputy mayor in the first round. Zafer Party candidate Çağatay Rasim Çağır could only receive 1 vote. Additionally, 4 of the cast votes were deemed invalid, while 1 vote was counted as invalid due to technical reasons. This picture demonstrates that the opposition failed to achieve a sufficient alliance, rather than reflecting the political outlook within the council.

The election process and its results were not limited to local council members; many high-level politicians also closely followed this crucial vote. CHP Aydın Member of Parliament Evrim Karakoz was present at the election meeting to support her party's candidate. Furthermore, Çağatay Güç, who was previously dismissed while serving as the CHP İzmir Provincial Chair, was also present in the hall. Zafer Party İzmir Provincial Chair Sinan Bezircilioğlu was among those who attended the meeting to support their own party's candidate. This high-level participation revealed how critically important the local election in Seferihisar is in terms of regional and national politics.

Following the announcement of the official election results, the new Deputy Mayor Fuat Gümüş made a press statement. Gümüş promised that from the moment he takes office, he will act with an understanding of collective wisdom, consultation, and transparent management. He emphasized that during his term, he will focus on providing the best service to the people of Seferihisar without any political discrimination. On the other hand, Çağatay Güç, the dismissed former CHP İzmir Provincial Chair, shared a message of gratitude on social media. Güç stated that the council members protected democracy and the law, preserved the will of the people demonstrated at the ballot box, and expressed that Yetişkin is not alone.
