Trailer Detaching from Truck in Tekirdağ Claims 3 Lives

Three people lost their lives in a horrific traffic accident that occurred during the night hours in the Muratlı district of Tekirdağ. The accident took place at around 01.30 in the İnciröbekleri location of Yeşilsırt Mahallesi in Muratlı. Allegedly, the trailer of a truck traveling from the Süleymanpaşa direction towards Muratlı detached from the main road for a yet undetermined reason. While this massive trailer thrown onto the road caused traffic to come to a complete halt, it also led to collisions between oncoming vehicles. A major disaster occurred at the scene, and transportation in the area was completely paralyzed.

The heaviest toll of the accident was the light commercial vehicle with the license plate 59 AOJ 243, driven by Ferit Baldız. The commercial vehicle, which went out of control in the chain-reaction accident involving the trailer and other vehicles, could only stop after crashing into the roadside barriers. The 50-year-old driver Ferit Baldız, 17-year-old Gizem Baldız, and 16-year-old Buse Naz Çiçek inside the vehicle were severely trapped inside due to the impact of the crash. Immediately after the accident, numerous health, fire department, and gendarmerie teams were dispatched to the region. The magnitude of the disaster required the teams arriving at the scene to conduct a lengthy and challenging rescue operation.

Fire department teams arriving at the scene made a intense effort to extract the trapped injured individuals from the vehicle. After long efforts, it was observed that the conditions of the three individuals extracted from the vehicle were very severe. Health teams tried to administer all interventions flawlessly at the scene in order to transport the injured to the hospital. However, despite all medical interventions and the intensive efforts of the doctors, the crash victims could not be saved. Ferit Baldız, Gizem Baldız, and Buse Naz Çiçek lost their lives at the scene.

Due to this tragic incident, the highway going from Süleymanpaşa to Muratlı was completely closed to traffic for a while. Long queues formed in the area due to the road closure, and gendarmerie teams tried to direct the traffic flow by increasing security measures. Following the accident, Muratlı Chief Public Prosecutor Oğuzhan Tekin along with the Gendarmerie Provincial Crime Scene Investigation teams arrived at the scene. Authorities launched a large-scale investigation in the area to uncover the causes of the accident and all details regarding the moment of the crash.

The bodies of the three deceased were sent to the Forensic Medicine Institution morgue to determine the exact cause of death and to complete the legal procedures. While the truck driver's statement was being taken, it was learned that a technical investigation regarding the trailer detachment was also initiated. The large-scale judicial investigation conducted regarding the matter continues at full speed. This tragic event has once again brought the issue of road safety during night hours and trailer connections of heavy-tonnage vehicles to the agenda. Authorities emphasize that highway inspections and vehicle safety standards must be increased to prevent similar disasters.
