306 suspects detained in operations against cyber crimes across Turkey

Units within the Emniyet Genel Müdürlüğü (EGM) carried out a wide-scale operation across Turkey as part of the fight against cyber crimes. During the operations, simultaneous raids were conducted in 24 different provinces, and numerous suspects were identified as a result of evidence search operations targeting perpetrators of cyber crimes. These operations, realized as a result of the coordinated action of security forces, once again brought the state's determination against crimes committed in the digital environment to the forefront.

Within the scope of the operations targeting cyber crimes, a total of 306 suspects were caught and detained, and legal proceedings were initiated against them. A comprehensive technical and physical tracking process was carried out to decipher the structures that realized the funds and actions of these individuals in the digital world. Security units stated that the operation aimed not only to catch individuals but also to collapse the financial and technical infrastructure of this crime network.

After the completion of the procedures of the detained suspects at the police departments, they were referred to the judicial authorities and their statements were taken by the prosecutor's office. Judicial control conditions were evaluated according to the nature of the cyber crimes, the severity of the crime they committed, and the status of the evidence. Referral proceedings were made for the majority of the suspects with a request for arrest, and their freedom was questioned by the courts.

In the first stage of the trial process conducted by the courts, a decision was made to arrest 18 of the suspects and send them to prison, and the process was initiated for the execution of finalized prison sentences. The detained individuals are expected to receive sentences for different types of crimes such as cyber fraud, illegal acquisition of personal data, or intruding into information systems. The other suspects were released under judicial control conditions or name control, and it was decided that their trial processes would continue on paper.

The operations carried out within the last five days revealed how critical the issue of cyber security has become in terms of national security and demonstrated the capacity of the police organization in this field. Police officials delivered a message calling on the public to be more conscious against cyber fraud and digital fraud attempts and to report via the shortcut in suspicious situations. It was emphasized that studies for preventing illegal virtual activities and ensuring the security of information systems would continue uninterruptedly with these operations.
