The Türkiye-Pakistan Business Forum was held with great enthusiasm in İstanbul, bringing together high-level officials and prominent representatives of the business world from both countries. Moderated by Pakistan Prime Minister Şahbaz Şerif and various ministers, the event addressed how the deep-rooted friendship between the two countries can be transferred to the economic sphere. Minister of Trade Ömer Bolat, who spoke at the opening of the forum, gave the glad tidings that concrete steps will be taken to elevate the economic relations between the two countries to much higher levels. Emphasizing that Türkiye and Pakistan are two nations deeply bound to each other with profound love, Bolat stated that it is essential to strengthen these deep-rooted ties in their commercial dimension. Prime Minister Şahbaz Şerif noted that mutual trust between the countries will directly and positively affect the investment environment, inviting Turkish entrepreneurs to invest in Pakistan.

In line with the joint vision of the leaders of the two countries, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Pakistan Prime Minister Şahbaz Şerif, the trade volume is targeted to increase from the current 1,2 billion dollar level to 5 billion dollars. To achieve this massive goal, it was decided to renew and expand the scope of existing trade agreements. In this context, negotiations will restart within the year to further increase the opportunities offered by the Türkiye-Pakistan Trade in Goods Agreement, which entered into force in 2023. Minister of Trade Bolat stated that work is rapidly continuing on issues such as increasing product diversity and facilitating customs procedures, and they hope the process will be completed by the end of the year. It is believed that strengthening regional trade and supply chain integration will be one of the most important outcomes of this process.

To ensure that economic cooperation is not limited solely to trade in goods, it was announced that a comprehensive new agreement encompassing investments, services, and the digital economy is being prepared. While the first round of negotiations for the new agreement is planned for the autumn months, many strategic sectors are expected to benefit from this situation. It is noted that collaborations will gain momentum in a wide range of areas, including logistics, e-commerce, engineering services, tourism, education, healthcare, and shipbuilding. Furthermore, it is emphasized that there is enormous potential between the two countries in industrial branches such as iron and steel, automotive supply industry, plastics, consumer electronics, machinery, and medical device production. These steps aim to make a significant contribution to the economic development goals of both countries.

Türkiye's direct investments in Pakistan currently exceed 2 billion dollars, and the activities of Turkish companies in the region continue steadily. To date, Turkish contracting firms have successfully completed 74 major projects in Pakistan, including infrastructure and superstructure, totaling 3,5 billion dollars in value, providing significant momentum to regional development. Türkiye has officially stated that it is ready to work on new mega projects with Pakistan, particularly within the scope of transportation networks, water management systems, green infrastructure, and public-private partnership (PPP) models. These projects are envisioned to create employment and provide technology transfer, in addition to addressing Pakistan's infrastructure deficiencies. It was once again confirmed that the experience possessed by the Turkish business world plays a critical role in Pakistan's development journey.

Increasing engineering cooperation in high value-added areas such as the defense industry, cybersecurity, the digital economy, and information technologies opens up brand new windows of opportunity for both countries. Minister Bolat added that concrete steps will be taken in these fields, stating that technology sharing and joint R&D investments are the most critical elements that will shape the economy of the future. In a geopolitical environment where rapid changes and global crises are occurring, it was emphasized that the economic components of strategic partnerships must be stronger than ever. This comprehensive economic integration process between the two countries is considered to be not just a commercial target, but also one that serves regional stability. In short, Türkiye and Pakistan stand right at a historic threshold in transforming their deep-rooted cooperation in the political and diplomatic spheres into a much broader and sustainable economic strategy.
