Number of people in camps set up for earthquake victims in Venezuela rises to 16 thousand 891

The number of people staying in temporary shelter camps established by the government following the earthquakes that occurred in Venezuela on 24 Haziran has reached 16 thousand 891. Sectoral Vice President for Social and Regional Socialism Héctor Rodríguez updated this figure through a statement on social media. It was reported that a total of 87 temporary camps are operating across the country. The total capacity of these camps is planned at a level to accommodate 23 thousand 396 people. Authorities stated that the camps continue to provide uninterrupted services to those in need.

39 temporary shelter centers established in the capital Caracas have been arranged to have a capacity of 10 thousand 730 people. Currently, 5 thousand 335 people are staying in these centers. It is observed that the capacity of the camps in Caracas is still below the occupancy rate and that they can host more people if needed. Authorities state that the basic needs of the disaster victims staying in the shelter centers in the capital are met and that health support is provided at regular intervals. The government gives confidence that the capacity in Caracas will be sufficient in case of possible new tremors.

In Miranda state, 22 different temporary centers are operating, and the total capacity of these areas has been determined as 2 thousand 83 people. Currently, 1 thousand 165 citizens are being sheltered in these camps. The relatively low occupancy rate in Miranda indicates that the damage in the region may remain more limited compared to other states. However, authorities emphasize that the capacity can be increased if necessary and that additional measures are ready to be taken. The shelter centers in Miranda also continue to provide food, water, and hygiene support to the disaster victims.

In La Guaira, the region most affected by the earthquakes, a total of 26 temporary shelter centers have been established. These camps currently host 10 thousand 391 people, a figure that shows the highest density across the country. It was reported that five of the shelter centers in La Guaira are currently in the process of being expanded. The expansion works are being carried out rapidly in order to meet the increasing needs of the disaster victims in the region. Authorities stated that with the increase in the capacity of these centers, more people can be accommodated safely.
