Hope grows at 2,000 meters: Black vulture chick spotted

In a rugged region of Turkey, a new black vulture chick has been spotted in a nest located at an altitude of approximately 2,000 meters. İbrahim Can Yıkılmaz, a nature enthusiast who has been monitoring the nest for four years, expressed his joy at seeing the fourth chick grow this year. Yıkılmaz discovered the nest by chance during a walk in the forest years ago and initially did not think it belonged to a black vulture. After research, he learned that the nest belonged to a black vulture and has been regularly observing it ever since. He noted that the mother vulture leaves the nest in the morning and returns with food a few hours later to feed the chick, emphasizing that this process requires patience and long-term monitoring.

Black vultures are known to be extremely shy and secretive creatures, making it very difficult to capture both mother and chick in the same frame. Yıkılmaz stated that such observations are not something that can yield results in a single day; one must observe the animals' behavior over a long period. Despite the challenging terrain, Yıkılmaz's determination and passion for nature made these important images possible. Yıkılmaz also works for the General Directorate of Forestry and is engaged in farming.

Yıkılmaz issued important warnings to nature lovers and wildlife observers. He emphasized the need to respect natural habitats, noting that many people want to see these animals, but he conducts his observations from a great distance. He stressed that loving nature is as important as protecting wildlife without disturbing it, and that everyone should be sensitive in this regard. Otherwise, the habitats of these sensitive species could be damaged.
