Ramses II statue completed 96 years later

For 96 years, the missing upper part was found in 2024 by an archaeological discovery located near the Minya region of Misir'in. Ramses II's colossal statue, over 7 meters tall, had its lower part first uncovered in 1930. The discovery of the upper part made it possible to fully reassemble the statue. This find is considered an important step in the preservation of Mısır's ancient heritage.

Restoration work began in 2025 and was completed in early 2026, and the statue was re-erected at the northern entrance of the El Ashmunein寺庙ini at its original location. The restored statue is approximately 6,7 meters tall and weighs 40 tons. Traces of rare blue and yellow pigments were detected on its surface, providing new information about the statue's original appearance. Although preservation is difficult due to environmental factors such as groundwater and the Nile's humidity, the final condition is reported to be very good.
