International meeting on 'far-left terrorism' with the participation of 65 countries organized by the U.S. Department of State

The U.S. Department of State organized an international meeting in Washington to discuss strategies for combating politically motivated terrorism of far-left origin that crosses borders. Attended by approximately 65 countries, including those from Europe, Central and South America, and Japan, Secretary of State Marco Rubio drew attention to the growing threat.

Secretary Rubio emphasized the need for countries to review their counter-terrorism measures and cooperate on a global scale. He also claimed that 93 percent of the terrorist attacks that occurred in Western countries from the 1970s to the 1980s were carried out by far-left groups, arguing that left-wing violence is an overlooked aspect in the fight against terrorism.

The Trump administration, on the other hand, tightened its legal prosecutions on the issue by designating the far-left movement 'Antifa' as a 'domestic terrorist organization.' However, there are serious concerns that this situation leads to the targeting of the radical left wing within the Democratic Party and activists critical of the administration.
