US Launches Military Support and Humanitarian Aid Mobilization for the Earthquake Zone in Venezuela

United States Southern Command (SOUTHCOM) officially announced that it has significantly expanded its humanitarian assistance operations following the devastating earthquakes in Venezuela. Two severe tremors that struck the northern part of the country on 24 Haziran 2026 were recorded by the United States Geological Survey (USGS) and reported to the international public. This catastrophe caused the collapse of buildings in the region and, according to previously announced official data, resulted in the loss of more than one thousand four hundred lives. Immediately after the disaster, US President Donald Trump emphasized that he had placed all agencies of the government on high alert for swift action and that the country would stand by them in this moment of crisis. In this context, it was announced that the US Armed Forces have taken on a critical mission by launching a comprehensive mobilization to deliver critical supplies and logistical support to the region.

This massive US humanitarian aid and support operation is being conducted through the integration of numerous military units, aircraft, ships, and intelligence systems. One of the main hubs of the operation is the Simón Bolívar Uluslararası Havalimanı, located near Venezuela's capital, Caracas. To manage airport operations and safely increase aircraft traffic, an approximately one-hundred-person US Air Force response team specialized in airport operations was deployed to the region. This team aims to increase the capacity of the air bridge for the evacuation of the injured and the distribution of aid by working in close coordination with local aviation authorities. As part of the operation, a formidable fleet consisting of C-17 Globemaster aircraft and C-130 Herkül transport planes is being used to transport troops and heavy equipment. In addition, MV-22 Osprey tiltrotor aircraft and UH-1Y Venom helicopters belonging to the US Marine Corps are providing air support to rapidly deliver personnel and emergency supplies to the most remote areas affected by the earthquake. CH-47 Chinook helicopters from the land forces play a critical role in transporting heavy cargo and construction materials, while MH-60R Seahawk helicopters contribute to the coordination of sea and air operations. This variety aims to ensure the uninterrupted continuation of aid despite the challenging geographical conditions of the disaster zone.

The operation has not been limited to the air; a comprehensive strategy has also been pursued to pave the way for maritime assistance. To bring the La Guaira Limanı, which was heavily damaged and rendered unusable by the disaster, back into operation, 130 US Marines have been dispatched to the region. The primary mission of this unit is to repair the port infrastructure, allowing international aid arriving by sea to be safely unloaded. Acting as the flagship for this maritime operation is the amphibious ship USS Fort Lauderdale, serving as both a logistical base and a large-scale supply depot. Landing craft aboard the ship are acting as a life-saving bridge, transporting significant amounts of humanitarian aid supplies and heavy machinery ashore even before the port is repaired.

Behind all these field operations, high-tech satellite imagery and advanced intelligence data provided by the US Space Force are of great importance. Thanks to these satellite systems, areas such as collapsed buildings and roads that local teams cannot physically reach are precisely mapped, allowing search and rescue operations to be planned based on this data. Furthermore, in official statements made by SOUTHCOM, it was emphasized that all American units in the operation have established a self-sustaining logistical network and are not dependent on Venezuela's limited local resources in any way. This situation alleviates the burden on local authorities already struggling with the earthquake, while guaranteeing that US aid reaches those in need directly and without interruption. Thus, this comprehensive military-humanitarian intervention by the US serves as an urgent lifeline for the victims, providing significant momentum for the alleviation of the crisis in the region.
