Germany investigates possible coordinated sabotage attempts on power grid

In Germany, two separate attacks on power transmission lines in the states of Brandenburg and North Rhine-Westphalia are being investigated on suspicion of a possible coordinated sabotage attempt. Unknown individuals directed conductive material at high-voltage lines using improvised flying devices near the Jänschwalde thermal power station and near Bergheim, close to Cologne. Police are examining a letter found in Jänschwalde to verify a claim of responsibility.

Despite the attacks, it was reported that electricity supply continued without interruption. Brandenburg Interior Minister Jan Redman stated there were indications no foreign power was involved, while North Rhine-Westphalia Minister Herbert Reul suspected the attacks could be linked. An investigation into the suspicion of forming a terrorist organization is also underway, and State Road 50 in Turnow-Preilack was closed.

The state of Brandenburg plans to establish a "360-degree security center" to pool information from various security agencies and local administrations. While security services had previously attributed sabotage attempts to left-wing extremists, the method used in Brandenburg is said to differ from previous ones.
