Horrible accident on the way back from a funeral in Amasya: 3 people from the same family lost their lives

In the fatal traffic accident that occurred in the Merkez district of Amasya, three people from the same family returning from a funeral ceremony lost their lives. The Bilir family, who were heading towards their hometown Amasya after attending a relative's funeral in Antalya, had a tragic accident only 25 kilometers away from their home. In the incident, as a result of the collision between the light commercial vehicle the family was in and a tractor, many people were also injured with varying degrees of severity. While this bitter incident caused deep mourning for the family's relatives, it also brought road safety discussions in the region back to the agenda. Numerous health, police, and gendarmerie teams dispatched to the region after the accident launched a comprehensive investigation at the scene.

According to the information obtained, Mehmet Bilir was driving the light commercial vehicle with the license plate 05 AER 839, a Tofaş Fiat Doblo. While the vehicle was proceeding near the Gökhöyük junction in the Amasya Merkez district, it went out of control and crashed into a tractor with the license plate 05 ACM 679, driven by Osman Şahin. With the impact of the severe collision, the light commercial vehicle went off the road and rolled down an embankment. Police, gendarmerie, and emergency health teams, who arrived at the scene shortly after the accident, immediately started working to rescue the injured and secure the area. After the casualties, including the tractor driver, were removed from the scene, traffic controls and security measures were tightened in the region.

In addition to Mehmet Bilir, who was severely injured and lost his life at the scene, his brother Yavuz Bilir and his mother Fatma Bilir could not be saved despite all interventions made at the hospital where they were taken. Family members named Müzeyyen Bilir and Selma Bilir, who were in the same vehicle, along with Osman Şahin, the driver of the tractor they collided with, were taken under treatment at the hospital. Health authorities announced that the conditions of the injured are serious and they are being kept in intensive care. It was stated that the lifeless bodies of the three deceased will be handed over to their families after the autopsy procedures. As this tragedy occurred on the way back from a funeral, it doubled the family's grief and caused great sorrow and mourning in the region.

Local residents and citizens who witnessed the accident expressed that they received the tragedy with deep sorrow. Yılmaz Kara, one of the citizens who came to the scene and spoke with the authorities, emphasized that road construction works are currently ongoing in this area and similar traffic accidents occur frequently. Kara almost cried out to warn the authorities, stating that extra security measures must be taken urgently in this dangerous section and warning signs must be made more visible. It is evaluated that the inadequacy of traffic markings during road construction works could have been a triggering factor for the accident. The local people demand that the authorities take serious steps regarding this black spot and that necessary measures be implemented as soon as possible to prevent such bitter events in the future.

A comprehensive investigation initiated by the authorities regarding the matter is ongoing to examine the exact dynamics of the accident and possible claims of negligence. Following the examinations at the accident scene, a detailed judicial process is being conducted to determine the technical conditions of the vehicles and their compliance with highway safety rules. In the file, where statements of eyewitnesses were consulted, a number of security camera footages related to the traffic accident were also collected as evidence to be examined. Within the scope of the investigation, the area of responsibility of the contractor company carrying out the road construction and the way traffic is directed are also being scrutinized. The Amasya Governorship and local security forces announced that they will inform the public in detail after the investigation is concluded and that the necessary administrative or judicial sanctions will be applied.
